Join me on Sat. 16th at 6pm for a toast to Harry's memory and accompanied appropriately by one of his harmonica riffs.
To follow, Hairy Dave is preparing some of his famed curry goulash for you to tuck into.
In addition a special trophy has been prepared by Dave Walker and dedicated to Harry which will be presented over the weekend.
Look forward to seeing you then.

re. catering...

Please could everyone who wishes to join in with the Indian food please make sure that we are aware of this, so that we know the numbers we will be catering for. (We might perhaps put up a sign-on list in the clubhouse.) We will be shopping for ingredients on the Saturday morning.

If anyone has any special food needs, or particularly dislikes any ingredient then let us know ASAP and we will do our best to menu plan accordingly.

We are open to requests, but we cannot promise.

We would be happy for people to watch us cooking, but you should be warned that we may get you to help.

We would be happy to bring any spices people would like to have - they are much cheaper in Keighley than in the supermarkets.

Hairy and Mrs Hairy Dave

Keith,
Is the flying only available to Lma or Saa members? I am a BMFA member and as a friend of Harrys would have liked to come along and fly a model ,
thanks Euan.

Hi Dave,
I don't like chicken pork or offal so if your doing any of those will there be a vegetable curry option ?

Dave,

Please remember that I am a Yorkshireman. Meat is expensive. There will be plenty of veg. We are thinking of cooking a variety of dishes, but only one meat dish which we were planning to be chicken. (The menu will all depend upon numbers, and availability of ingredients.)

I have been asked by Karen Lynn, Harry Harland's daughter to post the following,

"" I would like to thank everyone who turned out for the Harry Harland Memorial Flyin at Longhorsley. It was lovely to see old faces and new and share memories of my dad. He would have been so proud to be remembered this way. I know he was there in spirit, if not in body. The presentation of the trophy in his name was emotional but I would not have missed it. Thank you all once again. "Will you miss me when I'm gone?" Yes we do ! -- Gone but never forgotten.

Thank you all. It was a lovely time and even an Apple Pie from Doreen.

Karen """

We got home from the Fly-in this afternoon. It was a great weekend, but with a nasty gusty cross-wind. However most of the comments we heard about the event were good.

The central event of the weekend was the awarding of the Harry Harland Trophy. This took place on the Sunday lunchtime. Before this there was a flying slot where three of Harry's models were flown. I got a few photos of this but was too late to get them all in the air. I had the wrong lens on my camera, so the quality may be iffy.

Then there was the award. Being fairly new to Longhorsley I would ask others to post to put names to faces.

Finally, I feel that I must include another couple of photos that do not reflect upon Harry's memory. However I was commanded to include them by 'Someone who usually gets her way'. Firstly is the tasteful pink loo that was there ...

And finally (for now) the result of the difficult wind conditions upon one of the pilots.

I have loads more piccies of the other models that were there, but that is enough for now.

Thanks for the pic's, Dave and, yes, the weekend went well - a fitting tribute to Harry!

It was nice to have Harry's daughter, Karen, to do the presentation of the trophy, Iain McKenzie being the first recipient with one of his old models, the Comper Swift. Incidentally the trophy has been excellently crafted by Dave Walker and features one of Harry's cowlings from another lovely model of his, the Tiger Moth.

Also, to you Dave & Jacqui, grateful thanks from the club and all who attended for the excellent meal you provided on Sat. evening - it raised £150 in donations for the Northumbria Helicopter Ambulance Appeal.

See you next year, same time, same place...

Keith

When Harry was a guest of the NMAS at Longhorsley clubhouse one afternoon last winter, he entertained many of us with his tale of a sortie with the Rothman's [full- size] aerobatic team in their Pitt's specials. He did this in his capacity as the photographer for his local paper in Hartlepool, when the team were at Tees-side [as it then was named] airport for an annual air show, c. 20 years or more ago.
It was all written up as an article for the paper at the time, and apparently re- produced later in an LMA Journal.
Can anyone tell me which Journal number it was?

Many thanks,

Ken Rusby

Kenneth, I can remember the article but as yet have not found the Journal. However I have just completed the clean out of Harry's workshop and I have found, the framed pictures, 2 off, which Harry took.
They look a bit dusty but I have spoken with his daughter who presented the trophy at the NMAS do and we would like to present these to the club as a token of appreciation for the event.

I am away this weekend but will get them up to Long Horsley as soon as possible.

Classic "Black and White " shots capturing the event

Cheers Dave

David,

Many thanks for the info. on Harry's photos. I'm sure my fellow Longhorsley club members will be delighted to add them to their clubhouse "wall of fame" of models + personalities over the years, if not give them more prominent pride of place.
Ian Jones kindly contacted Rob about the Journal number after Ian & I had contacted each other, and whilst not getting the specific number got the fact that there was a pic. of Harry in a Pitts Special on the cover, a good start.
So, it's up to me to trawl in a methodical manner through them starting at c. 1980.
I'll let you know how I get on!

Thanks again,

Kind regards,

Ken Rusby
