Len Rawle

Today Len Rawle one of the founder members of the LMA sadly passed away after a very short illness. He was one of the original group who founded the LMA and helped organise a lot of events in the early days. Len and Richard also ran a successful model business importing Zenoah engines and other specialised parts. Len was also a world class musician playing the Wurlitzer organ, in fact he had one installed in his house until a few years ago. Blue skys Len from the LMA.

So sad. Dear Old Len. What a wonderful man that we have lost.
As an organ player and enthusiest myself, I saw Len on several occasions and the last time was just five weeks ago. I spoke to him after he was playing at an old farm vintage organ demonstration near Lowestoft. He was dressed all in white and in good spirits. Such a shock. I have some video of him playing one of the three restoration project organs there. I will have to find out how to put it on Utube so I can put a link on this forum.
My sincere condolences to Judith, Richard and family.

Yes yet another of the originals gone.WhenI phoned him up if his wife answered,she asked a question first,music or models ?.Yet another gentleman lost.I think his son,Richard is No 1 on our membership list,I am no 23,there cannot be many of the original 24 plus left

RIP Len, a grand LMA founder member, Committee member & one of the original Board of Guardians. The last time we met was several years ago at Cosford and, as he knew of my interest in Theatre Organs, presented me with a complementary CD of one of his recitals. Condolences to Richard & the Family.

Really sorry to hear about Len . he , along with Jeremy Shaw and Brian Shaw made Doreen and I most welcome when we joined the LMA IN 1988
We had the pleasure of Len and Richard's company at several trips to the meetings at LA Ferte Alais , enclosed photo taken there , 1991 , with Len on the left
Also enjoyed Len's company at the LMA committee meetings and events, where Len was always cheerful , helpful and always willing to share his technical skills

Dear me, two founder members passing in the same week…
Jeremy’s contribution to the LMA is unsurpassed and we all owe a debt of gratitude to him. Together with the late Brian Spoor, he was fearless in advancing the cause of our Association when there was little support in the modelling community for large models and, indeed, downright antagonism in many quarters.
Through them we were able to establish ourselves as a more than credible organisation with the CAA and initiatives such as safety, design and operation of large models eventually led to an acceptance by them, the BMFA and others that we were here to stay and we had to be taken seriously.
Our status in this branch of the hobby remains unequalled and in large part is due to the unflinching drive of Jeremy in those early days. His example for those who followed him, including myself, inspired us to try and make the LMA the organisation he and others - and dear Len - would become what it is today.
We will not forget him.
