Re: Moki 215cc tuning or...?
Was it stored with fuel in carburettor? If so, most 2 strokes and similar engines using a mix of fuel and oil - of any kind - tend to run into problems as you describe as the volatile petrol evaporates over time, leaving a residue of the oil in the carburettor that can mess with the mixture settings...

Re: Wellington build thread
If I recall correctly, there was a linkage between the flaps and elevator trim on the Wellington. This meant, iirc, that if the pilot retracted the flaps without first retrimming to neutral it tore the trim-box off the fuselage-wall - deeply unpopular with the ground crews as it happened with some f...

Should there not also be provision for servo's for gear doors or do these plans not have them? Lovely looking Wellington btw!

Re: Field charging.
Our club has a solar-panel on the roof of the hut. which charges a bank of car batteries, which then charge LIPO batteries via a 12v output from the car-battery bank, which is stepped down to the appropriate voltage and current by the charger.

Many thanks for the advice chaps. I believe I'll be moving over the Edge TX.

Open Tx or Edge Tx?
I've recently bought a TX16s, and am considering whether or not to operate it with Edge Tx rather than the Open Tx. I'm inclined to follow the advice of the film below, and stick with the Open Tx. On the other hand, it'd be good to seek a 2nd opinion, so if any of you have strong views/experience wi...

Back in the 90's just before RAF Manston became (in a desperately sad renaming to "Kent International Airport" - how I loathe the renaming of wartime fields to names considered more likely to gain commerce) I was doing my instructors ticket, and regularly watched the "Chippies" ...

I believe it's the case the number can put on the inside providing it can be accessed without "special" tools. So that's what I'll be doing in future, printed on the smallest font I can find ! It was by way of a semi-humorous rant, but this just goes from bad to worse. I think the hobby ne...

I've just renewed my £9 CAA useless-annual-bumpf and am now given a longer number and completely different alpha-numeric code to apply to my model, a whopping 19 characters long including two hyphens. By way of fun, I substituted the first 19 characters of a novel, sufficient to identify this novel ...

Is it thought likely some form of meet will occur at Gaydon this year, or may be, if the Covid restrictions reduce to the point of it being practicable?

Alloy metallurgy advice
I'm looking to build an airframe in alloy for a 1:3.7 scale Wellington. The planned method is to extrude the geodetic channel, to pass a 2mm steel cable through it, with alternating rubber spacers and alloy plates, which occupy the spaces within the channel, and then wind the channel with a ratchet ...

Re: Slingsby T21 Sedberge. 1/3
I have a very fond memory of flying one of those in Sussex, when one day the thermals were so powerful it went up , a most surprising experience as hitherto it'd come down like a type-writer thrown out of a 12 storey window! I confess I'm surprised also at the profusion of delicate ribs, was it not,...

Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster
I love the subtle treatment of the rivets to suggest a little "wear and tear". The fuselage in line with the inner engine airscrews was usually a bit more battered than elsewhere from ice being cast off the prop' discs at speed. (Same reason the Wellington has a double-thickness of doped-l...

Re: Most typical scales of currently flying LMA Wellingtons
Just by way of an FYI, I am actively working to provide a non-functioning* FN5 turret at 1:6.6 scale for the SLEC/Nijhuis Wellington. The 3d printing side is straight-forwards, the cupola is another matter, as it cost over £300 just making the moulds, and the vac-forming in polycarbonate was another...

Re: Convair YF2Y-1 Sea Dart
Alex, do you know how the "petals" would be set on the real aircraft at slow "taxi" speed? I'm wondering if they needed a particular setting to prevent this steam in the thrust-pipes from occurring on the full-size machine. It's conceivable they need to(work) and be partially clo...
