Re: Wellington build thread

Well done Robin ! All that work is worth it. I've got 21 flights on mine now, a bit of hangar and transport damage, but nothing has gone wrong and it's a super thing to fly.

Re: Wellington build thread

By the way....how did you guys solve the wing fastening to the fuselage...there are many ideas how to do this....but I might still learn from you! Like you I didn't like the Plans' wing retention method of just self tapping screws into the wing joiner. You might get away with that for a bit, but lo...

Re: Wellington build thread

That looks fantastic Robin !!! May I ask what paints and glow fuel proofer you have used please ? I use car paint now (basecoat and 2K lacquer) but it's getting harder to get and expensive in the UK, so I'm always interested in alternative solutions. I have found the model to be quite fragile, it's ...

Re: Wellington build thread

[quote= Did you install flaps in your Wellington? If yes, how much throw did you give them and how much down trimm was required when employed? From what I have found in the forums the CoG set at the main wing tube should be allright. Did you use that too? You have mentioned sluggish roll response. D...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together ....but alas, first i has to survive those intial flights.. Greetings Robin It's not a difficult plane to fly at all, mine is a standard build, 20Kg with two Laser 180's. Mine has a strong swing to the left on take off, and the rudder is a bit rubbish. Make sure you have a strong ste...

Re: Wellington build thread

A word of caution with the Vortex cowls. They are made in two pieces (front and rear) and glued together. I have a pair of Laser 180's in my Welly, which like you, required a hole in the cowlings. Where this hole cuts the cowling join, it significantly weakens it. On my third flight, one of the cowl...

Likewise for my club. We do not check or record CAA numbers. It is the pilots responsibility to comply with their legal requirements. For the same reason we don't ask to see their drivers licence or car insurance either.

There's a chap who sells them on Ebay, this is where I got mine from. They are folded rather than rolled, but I didn't find that a problem. Link below. Have you got a cowling, canopy and scoop ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MODEL-AIRCRAFT-PLANS-FOR-SCRATCH-BUILDING-6-22-/233191533662?mkcid=16&mkev...

Re: building a two piece fusalage

Hi Arthur, I asked what car you had as someone with the same car may have experience of fitting a Wellington in it. There's a lot of them out there. When I built my Welly, I expected the fuselage would be the problem for transport, but actually it wasn't - the fuselage in one piece is fine, it's the...

Re: building a two piece fusalage

May I ask what car you have ? My Nijhuis 158" Wellington fits inside a Ford Mondeo with a one piece fuselage. I would maybe suggest that if your car isn't big enough for the Wellington fuselage it's probably not big enough for the wings either.

Re: Ziroli p51 mustang retracts

Can't directly help I'm afraid, but I'm building one of these too. It's designed for the Robart 145 mains which drop straight in. I wanted to use electrics, so got a set of Electron ER50's with Robart 682 main legs and 6 inch wheels. Reverse engineering the wing to take the ER50's was 'challenging' ...

Impending balsa shortage.

Both SLEC and Balsa Cabin have posted notices today advising that they have lost their primary balsa suppliers. It seems that Chinese wind turbine blade production is buying the lot from under them. They expect prices to double or more in the near future. If you're planning a winter project - get in...

If you have no joy, look into buying these directly from Nick Ziroli in the USA. Even after the dollar exchange rate, VAT, Customs and handling charge - it will still work out cheaper than other options.

Hi Cary,

Thank you for thinking of me. £400 was the top of my budget I'm afraid, so if you have a better offer then please go ahead with it.

Very best wishes,
Scott
