Re: Wellington build and re-build

Hello Steve Thats looking fantastic....and as good as new..or even better..;-) I have to agree with Pete, I wouldnt have had the will for such a rebuild. Great job. And thanks for the information about the flaps. I am using a bit more flaps at the moment, around 75 degrees. Maybe that the reason why...

Re: Wellington build and re-build

Hello Steve Great progress there Steve. The repairs are coming together niecely as it seems. And nice cowls. Looking better (and definiterly sturdier) than the vac formed ones i use. BTW, I see that you have also installed flaps on your Wellington. How is your experience with them, and what settings ...

Re: Wellington build and re-build

Hello Steve First a happy new year to you. I am still in awe about your progress (and perseverance) in the face of such damage. Those wings would admittedly have been a lost cause for me... One question: how do you check the "surviving" parts for hidden damage? Looking forward to see more ...

Re: Wellington build and re-build

Hello Steve Yup, thats some serious gunk in the filter. No wonder the Zenoahs acted up. I switched to synthetic fuel about 12 years ago and never looked back since then. Less smelly, and no issues with the ethanol. It is costlier but as I use exclusively 4 Stroke engines fuel consumption and cost ar...

Re: Wellington build and re-build

Hello Steve

Wow, quite some progress! You are really pouring it on. And yeah, I also a have a special drawer for those "no longer to be trusted" RXs. Will you be staying with the Zenoahs, or are you thinking to change them too?

Best regards

Robin

Re: Wellington build and re-build

Hello Steve Now thats a pitty to hear about the crash of your Wellington. In the first pictures that looked like a case for the bonfire and not for the building table. I really admire that you are rebuilding the plane, thats something I wouldnt have the stomach to do. So cudos to your will and appar...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together Here a quick update to all the Wellington pilots. Yesterday I experienced my first single engine flight with the Wellington. While I always feared this situation as it being the worst case for the plane, the actual event wasnt all that terrifying or taxing. It actually it took me a go...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello Scott Thank you for your kind words. And yes, going with the experience of the first flight, this plane will actually see more action than I anticipated. It is a joy to fly and has an awesome presence in the air. At the moment I am doing maintenance and improving on some details on the model, ...

Successful Maiden

Hello together After a long hiatus from the Wellington i got back to it and put the last few hours into the build. Altough "hours" is a bit of an exaggeration as the only thigs left to do were checking the CoG and checking i the engines are running in synch. But it really seemed like a boa...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together Thank for piping in to the Wellington build thread. Things have gone rather slowly over the last few week due to some health issues getting into the way. ( I am due for a replacement hip joint coming next week...which will delay the maiden into early fall....bah.. ....) Anyway, ...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello Scott Thanks. The camouflage paints are some specially mixed Acrylic paints filled into spray cans from a swiss supplier. A bit expensive to be honest, but woth the money. IFor fuel proofing I used 2K satin clear spray cans. The black is also 2K paint from rattle cans. Both the clear and the b...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together Finally the painting stage has come to a close. Had to assemble the Welli for a a motivation shot. While it is not the greatest paint job, I am satisfied with it. With the size of the model, the dings and scratches from handling and transport will start to accumulate in no time anyway...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together Progress on the Wellington has been a bit slow as I got sidetracked by another model project. I got the opportunity to buy an unflown ESM BF110 already fully equipped which kept me distracted for a while... :D Anyway, after having shelved the 110 I returned to the Welli. THe plane has...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together @Timothy: Interesting tidbit about the Wellington. I can imagine that those linkages were rather despised with the maintenance crews. I can imagine with wartime trained green flight crews and the added stress of coming back from a bombing mission over occupied Europe that those linkag...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello Scott Thank you very much for your advice regarding the flight behaviour of the Wellington. It is reassuring and highly appreciated to have some tips from an experienced Wellington Pilot in the light of the nearing maiden flight. If it is alright with you I have some ( or actually a bunch of t...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together Thank you all for your input. It is appreciated. I will have a look at Kingfisher aviation in regard to the fiberglass cowls. I am now in the process of reinforcing the joint of the vortex cowls with epoxy and glassfiber. Should hold up for the first few flights. If the Wellington sur...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together Spring has arrived and the painting has begun. Finally some colors different from Olive Green appear on the plane...even if the majority of it is black...;-) Admittedly I have underestimated the amount of paint this rather big model is using up and have run out spray cans with custom ...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello Scott Thank you very much for the heads up in regard to the Vorte cowls. It came just in time, as I was preparing the cowls already for painting. I will have to decide how to reinforce them. I think I will reinforce the joint with a good amount of epoxy and glass/carbon for now. Could you give...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together Here a small update on the Wellington. While I have meanwhile received the spray cans with the correct colors, I am still waiting for some warmer and at least semi calm weather for spraying the Wellington. The weather is generally quite agreable for the season, but the eastern winds a...

Re: Wellington build thread

Hello together @Manish: Yes, I thought about doing it that way too, but as the fuselage was already started the access to the wingnut was obstructed. So I went with the external srew in the fin. Anyway, another big step (at least for me) has now been finished. The two OS fourstrokes have now found t...
