1/4 Scale 18' Handley Page Hampden

Many of you will know that Mike Eccles started this "scratch built" project over 5 years ago and had displayed it at several LMA static events in various stages of construction. In June 2016 I took the project over as Mike was finding it too much to manhandle. I soon discovered what he mea...

Re: 1/4 scale Sea Fury

Pleased to say that the Sea Fury has now been painted - excellent job by Tim Simmonds. Now have to do all the radio programming and it should be ready for test flying later this year. Some pics attached.

Re: Ken Bones 55

Emilly and I are really shocked and saddened to hear this news. Ken was an extremely active supporter of the LMA and was a very well respected Inspector in his duties on behalf of the Over 20kg Scheme. He was also very well known in the full size aviation world for his fantastic re-furbishment of th...

Re: 1/10th scale Blackburn Beverley.

This is indeed a sad loss - Malcolm epitomised the "back to basics" spirit of non ARTF builds and it is obvious from the "hit counts" on the thread he created about his project that a large number of modellers visited his site regularly. Just prior to his death I had been in touc...

Re: 50% DH 60 MOTH

Rob Have researched the LMA archives - I can find no registration for this project so you need to get it inspected before you recover it or you could spend a lot of money and discover the airframe will not be passed. Ian Turney-White has a similar half scale project on long term build so it would be...

Dave/Chris
Test flew Richard Rice's JP at Wellesbourne on Friday - flew straight off the board - no problems. It was flown in primer and will now be painted in the JP red/white scheme

Re: Powerbox 'Royal' Spectrum in over 20kg models?

Nigel if the aircraft you are referring to is the Fokker DV11 you registered in October 2010 then your appointed Inspector is Ian Turney-White and you need to discuss your radio installation with him as he is the LMA Inspector who will "sign it off". The only Powerbox system that meets the...

Re: Another sad passing

Dave really sorry to hear this - I know Clive had been quite seriously ill for a several years but always made a special effort to attend LMA events. Until a few years ago he was always the first to be a scrutineer on the flight line and did an excellent job of this in a firm but pleasant manner. He...

Re: Powerbox 'Royal' Spectrum in over 20kg models?

Simon Thank you I have only posted this information to try and settle this issue. The information was circulated to Inspectors only as background information because members must accept that the LMA cannot, and never have, approved or not approved a particular brand of radio or ancillary systems. We...

Re: Powerbox 'Royal' Spectrum in over 20kg models?

I am sorry that this issue still gets raised because I thought it had been resolved some time ago. Martin Waller has explained the issues extremely well - particularly in his comment about "lessening the risk" rather than trying to claim that there should be no risks at all. Some time ago ...

Re: Polikarpov i-16 at Duxford

Richard This excellent model is owned by John Saunders who lives in Epsom. He brings it to Duxford every year for me to fly (lucky me) and it flies really well. When he first asked me a few years ago I was a little reluctant as it appeard to look a "little tricky". All that was totally unj...

Re: Geoff Wynn

Very sorry to hear about Geoff Wynn - it is a little sad that quite a few members will not have known Geoff as he was, as Vince described, a very shy, retiring sort of person who had no "airs or graces" but produced some wonderful models and he just enjoyed watching other people fly them. ...

Roger (and all)

The application form for Exemption renewals is contained in the Journal just published.
These must be sent to me to be authorised - the CAA will not process them if they are sent direct

Re: Don Smith Constellation - finished weight ?

Alan We have 2 Don Smith Constellations registered through the Over 20kg scheme. One came out at 24kg and the other tipped the scales a fraction below 20kg. It is much safer to register a borderline model in the Over 20kg scheme than get further down the road and find that you will have to "bac...

Re: Powerbox 'Royal' Spectrum in over 20kg models?

Powerbox produce a whole range of different specifications as promulgated on their website. I cannot re-iterate enough that every Over 20kg model builder is appointed an Inspector who offe...

Shaun

There seems to be some confusion .
The Powerbox Royale RSS (Reduntant Rx System) has a redundant receiver system as well as 2 independant battery supplies
