What RC 2.4gHz system?

This topic has been aired a number of times. I am now getting long in the tooth and still have the gear I have had for years since changing from 35mHz. I have found my Futaba 6EXH FASST with R617RS receivers and Futaba servos entirely reliable. For me it's about designing and building models and fly...

Re: BMFA Achievement guide

Thanks Bob - a very strange website! Going in your way produces the Achievements guide on-screen but it can only be printed and not downloaded apparently. When I printed it the printer ran out of paper when it had got down to page 10. It restarted at page 5. Now any selection of a range to print the...

Re: Workshop Planning

I use an light weight interior door with a panel of fibre board attached to it to take pins. It is stored until needed and then erected on trestles in the centre of the workshop and levelled.

Re: Neil's November photos

Thanks Neil. Wikipedia tells me the 58 G is the unarmed ambulance version so, without the nose glazing and armament, its a cleaner-looking and peaceful machine. For 1934 it seems very advanced compared to Allied aircraft of the period - DF loops when ours didn't all have radios! It's nice to see it ...

Why does my computer freeze and have to be unplugged to restart it the moment I select the Cameron air show address?

Re: Kill Switch

I think I'll forget the blown arc job and just have a servo that pushes a length of hardened silver steel into the (wooden) propeller! In reality I think the choke control is the way to go. I'm guessing that, even if the engine doesn't actually stop on full choke, it won't be giving any real power a...

Re: Kill Switch

Thanks Rob - that's the clue I needed. It also allows the choke to be used during start-up without needing to open cowls near the propeller! The Chipmunk ZD38 is closely cowled and the carb is on an elbow so the levers are in unusual orientations. I was having visions of contacts pulled off old Post...

Kill Switch

I am now fitting out both my Hostetler 30% Cessna F152 and my 1/4 scale DHC1 Chipmunk. Both have magneto ignition Zenoahs - a 45cc in the Cessna and a 38cc in the Chipmunk. Both have two Futaba R617FS 2.4gHz receivers and have one aileron to each receiver and a mechanical mixer for the rudder using ...

Trunking for servo leads

After some comments from Phil some time back I have opted for plastic oval trunking for my 1/4 scale Chipmunk. This MK Oval Conduit came as a 3m length and is 16mm by 10mm oval section. It weighs 44gm per metre. Mine came from B & Q and it is available in 2m lengths as well. There were already 6...

Re: Wood suppliers

The data is actually here on this site!

From the front page menu pick Aircraft. Now select Featured Aircraft Builds. The last item there is Techniques - How to do it. In there is the route to a Word data sheet on cyparis with a comparison with spruce and hemlock. . . . . .

Re: 1/10th scale Blackburn Beverley.

Malcolm - running brass on brass is not advised. Brass is heavy and hard but not tough and wears quickly. I recommend making both parts in steel but with a thin bronze bush pressed into the bearing hole. The steel shaft will then turn freely without risk of binding and the bronze has the requisite t...
