Looking at upgrading to JR DMSS with its serial/digital X-BUS system. It is quite a technology leap from my existing DSM2 systems and power board installations. While this has huge capability for really large models containing dozens of servos, I cannot find much information on X-BUS installations f...
Ken, really nice to chat with you about your impressive Pucara project. It certainly caught my eye as I came up the escalator. Look forward to seeing more construction photos in the coming months.
Put my sensible cap on and realised that our club strip is probably too small for easy take offs and landings, it is about 100ft x 40ft rectangle surrounded by wheat / barley
Feeling inspired by some of the large Warbirds flown at Weston Park a few weeks back I wondered if something like a 1/4 scale Spitfire would be viable at our club field. I have not measured the size of the strip whicj with 3-4 ft high crop to 3 sides is not overly large but one of our planning condi...
after a frustrating Weston weekend attempting to start this hitherto unbelievably reliable and easy starting engine without success I attacked the DLE111 in a typically random and chaotic manner.. Before we start, the engine was running perfctly the weekend before, 3 turns on choke, ignition on and ...
Just a word or two of thanks to Lynne for her extraordinarily efficient service. My application was sent off just before christmas and arrived before the new year. Superb :-)
A few brave (or stupid?) souls including me braved the weather today at the local club. Nice flying off a snow covered strip but flights were restiicted to small electric models as no one fancied messing about with assembly or starting motors. Actually felt warmer than anytimne in the last week.
Looks to me like you need for each side: one small wife approx 86lbs a child of approx 38lbs a small dog approx 9lbs and the cat, approx 2lbs Then see if you can get them to sit still. You have an issue with the cat sat next to the dog. At leats if the wing fails the cat is on top this time :D . :D...
Ok, thought i would try and put some weight on the wings tonight whilst round at my mate Daves house. Anyway over a few beers and stuff we decided that we must both weigh about 270 lbs. So we balenced the wing in the kitchen and sat on it. At this point Daves cat walked under the wing, just as it s...
Yes, assuming it weighs 27lbs and is designed to pull 10g! As the wing is the lifting surface you can actually deduct its own weight from the calculation. it only really supports the fuselage etc so if the wing itself weighs 6lbs the 10 g load reduces to 27 -6 = 21 x 10g = 210 lbs. This is normally ...
Agree that there is nothing what soever wrong with foam and veneer wings , particularly when the construction includes main and sub spars tto distribute loads. Landing loads are a really difficult to calculate and an empirical approach is typically the mose successful. As I said earlier in the waffl...
Thanks Andy, When an object is travelling through the air, all we have are aerodynamic forces. Non aerodynamic forces only happen when all the sky is above the model. A sail ,parachute and even a sheet of paper is a wing of sorts. I thinnk the example you are quoting is based on the idea that given ...
Ref the loading, Highest stress is at the wing centre, spar strength tapers according to station on wing. The bending moment o the spar is actually split into tension and compression loads in the top and bottom spars with the webbing or infill area coping with the buckling and shear. You can do all ...
I think the calculations with turn radii estimate work but how do you control turn radii, and velocity to maintain these estimated G loads. the use of G meters is great but a bit of a bolting the stable door exercise once the model is designed and built. I view G loading from the other direction, un...
I understand and agree with some of the points made here. The LMA is by definition about LARGE models but the definition of a large model has changed massively over the years. Today most flying clubs around the country see a selection of models around the 30 to 50cc size each weekend, twenty years a...
We fly from a club near Penkridge and occasionally see and hear very large models flying to our west. The models include jets, biplanes and maybe even a turbo prop. we think they may be flying from Levedale or Coppenhall. As the models are large we would assume that the owner is a member of the LMA ...
