Re: Alex Whittaker, photographer extreme, R.I.P
By David Morris, Etc. An absolute shock to read of Alex’s Passing. Having met him over twenty years ago at Old Warden over twenty years ago with his photographer friend and at various other model flying events. His cheerful, like me, cheeky, impish manner always brought a smile to my face. Usual Cha...

As a wise man once said 'there's a lot of good work been done to make things this bad'. If anyone gets really bored, how the operator ID is (sort of) generated is detailed on pages 149-150 here- https://www.easa.europa.eu/sites/default/files/dfu/Easy%20Access%20Rules%20for%20Unmanned%20Aircraft%20Sy...

Re: hight restrictions
Yes that's correct. The CAA are delegating the approval of flying model aircraft over 7.5kg over 400ft to the BMFA & the LMA, for displays & permanent club flying sites. It's a bit of a pain at the mo, because the CAA have stopped issuing authorisations (there are no exemptions any more, eve...

Barrie,
For contractual reasons no, I can't at the moment say anything more than is in the articles(s). If there's some demand though, I'll see what more I can say about the model aircraft bits.

Re: 400 ft
Hope everyone had a good Christmas. Depending on your radio, telemetry altitude & variometer is only an Arduino, pressure sensor & a few quid away. If not, a model at 400ft flying over something on the ground 100 yards away will be 500ft from you. Walk 500 ft from your model on the ground an...

Sounds like somebody's been bored during lockdown & just making stuff up.
Manned light aircraft on a permit to fly are inspected by LAA, not CAA, approved & managed inspectors.

Re: Over 20Kg Scheme to be Over 25kg?
If an model is under 25kg with fuel, it will no longer need an exemption as of next year, and new models won't need any inspections if under 25kg. If it is over 25kg it will continue to need an exemption and new models will still need an exemption, and we're currently reviewing the process with the ...

Yes as of the end of this year, the weight limit changes from 20kg without fuel to 25 kg with fuel (all fuel tanks full).

Yes, PM's sit in the 'outbox' until read by the recipient. The recipient is also sent an email by the forum to tell them they have received a PM. If they've changed email address & not updated their forum profile, they will never receive it though.

Re: Flying
You've all got mail.
Basically, if you decide to go flying, don't go to meet anyone from outside your household. If other people are there it's no different to other people playing a round of golf or being in the park at the same time as you. Maintain social distancing from anyone else.

Re: CAD designer needed please
Cad software is free, and 2D will be easier to learn than 3D for making a model drawing.
https://nanocad.com/products/nanoCAD/
A rough estimate of my time to do some cad drawing came out at £12,000 (no vat) which is probably a bit spendy for a model plane.
