Re: what glue to use on spruce?

NOW NOW BOYS, no fighting, :) the last post intrigues, me, i wonder if good old caskamite powder/water mix glue would suffice? it certainly kept the boats togther i used to build, spruce stringers, plank on frame types, interesting, Alan, Extramite is the replacement for Cascamite, but like the Aer...

Re: Warning!

On full size wooden props, do they sleeve the bolt holes, so the bolts pinch down on the sleeve and not the wood? (a bit like servo mounts). Steve Hi Steve, sorry but I missed this post. No, the bolts clamp the prop directly. Well, they use a either a large 'prop' washer or spreader plate between t...

Phil Clark wrote:What is considered appropriate torque on the bolts in this application?

Phil, recommended torque for a 1/4" bolt through a wooden prop is 12-14Nm (metric are not usually used in full sized aviation so I'm having fun trying to find smaller metric bolt values).

Re: Warning!

If you're compressing the fibers of a wooden prop then you're doing something seriously wrong - once that starts to happen, throw the prop in the bin as that's all it's good for. How many of you use a torque wrench with these multi-bolt hubs?? no-one by the sound of it - get one and use it! properly...

Re: How do you measure G?

Ken, the simplest way of answering your question, (I'm not allowed to comment on anything Andy says), is that; 1. just about all of it 2. you measure 'G' with an accelerometer, (many different one available from places like EagleTree or HobbyKing - and can be accessed by live telemetry of recorded t...

Re: Vulcan at Eastbourne

Keith, Back in 1979 I was up at Waddington as part of a team re-skinning/rebuilding the intakes and the anti-ice ducting. The week before the annual airshow all sorts of aircraft were flying in and practicing their displays. On the Thursday, we had taken the scenic route back from lunch, and as we a...

Re: A Special B-17 & Her Crew In 1943

Hmmm, a B17 flying from Tunis back to England on 2 engines, and in 2 1/2 hours, (500mph average speed to Stanstead). Sorry Tony, but while the collision did happen and the photos show the damage to the B17, the rest of the story is..... lets just say Chinese whispers and some, (frankly ridiculous), ...

Re: Rawle Mosquito?

Hi Sean, The man to speak to is Neil (Mr Mossie) Hutchinson. He built "F for Freddie", a Rawle Mossie powered by a pair of Z45s a few years ago, and it's documented on www.mossie.org It's a bit of a work of art, and IIRC it's on display in a museum. From speaking with Richard a few years a...

Re: Burmese Spitfires

This is great news, and a fantastic coup for our warbird preservation movement, as was stated, they were all crated up, and although the wooden crates may have rotted away, the fact that the parts were wrapped in greased wrapping should ensure their survival, but whatever comes out of that hole wil...

Paul, As said below you need an inverter. Andy, WRONG!! - the one thing he doesn't need is an inverter - when will people learn that an inverter converts DC to AC -ONLY!! Single phase inverters are the usual ones you'll find in caravans OR if you want to run your lathe off a battery then three phas...
