Re: 1/4 Scale Chipmunk

Hi Dave, 1/4 scale Chipmunk Jerry Bates plans and laser cut short kit from Belair (though they do show it with a Zenoah ZG38). Cowl (which should take a 45) and canopy from Fighteraces. I think there are 6 sheets of plans, loads of scale detail shown, including full cockpit detail. My mate's just go...

Re: Carry a First Aid Kit.. And check its contents...

A bit more lighter, but true. Many years ago the same thing happened to a mate, a very nasty cut finger, and a passing "first aid hopeful" said "I hope your going to go to the hospital with that". Quick as a flash my mate retorted "Well, it's not going to get there on it's o...

By heck Steve, that was a quick reply. I'll have to type faster in future.

Re: Pilot problems

This went on for a number of days but, the last time I looked in on them it seems they have sorted out their differences, and have actually become "very" good friends. As can be seen in the last photo, there is a much more relaxed atmosphere about the place, long may it continue. Should an...

Re: Pilot problems

As can be seen in the photo's, a "life like" pilot figure has been installed in the model. It has since been decided that, since we are going to detail both cockpits, a second pilot figure should be fitted. This is where the problems started. Since the second pilot has arrived on the scene...

Pilot problems

I've built a 1/4 scale DH Moth Minor for my mate, Dave Greaves. The model is finished to it's "primer" stage, and will be totally finished once the test flights are completed. The first couple of flights have been successful, we will complete more test flights with the cowl fitted. Once we...

Re: DH Moth Minor C of G and control throws

Cheers Pete, I did get a reply from Jerry Bates, he couldn't remember the control surface throws, said he just has them at full travel and "uses what he needs" (interesting). He did say the C of G was back 5", I'll start at 4" as you recommend (better nose heavy than the other wa...

DH Moth Minor C of G and control throws

Does anybody know the recommended throws for the control surfaces and the speed brake for the Jerry Bates 1/4 scale DH Moth Minor. Also, the recommended position of the C of G? I can find no mention of them on the plans. Thanks in advance, David Jones.

Re: 1/5 chipmunk canopy wanted

Hi Gordon, I have the Apache Chipmunk, 84" span, I'm pretty sure it's 1/5 scale. Slec do the kits now and supply the cowl and canopy (both types, Super Chipmunk bubble and normal greenhouse canopy). The Greenhouse canopy is just shy of 18" long, it's of good quality and costs about £28 pos...

Re: Dave Baileys Taube

Hi Dave, your dad asked me if I would be interested in building the Taube for him. He gave me the plans to look at shortly before his passing. The plans were returned to you via Dave Johnson, I never did get to see the kit. I'm sorry I can't be of any more assistance. David Jones.

Have to agree with Alan, fantastic pics Dave. The Mitchell looks awesome against a blue sky. Good shots of Mike getting to grips with the Dak. Nice one.

Hi Luke, I have a Multiplex Royal 9 Evo. in mint condition. It's 35 meg but is synthesised so does not use crystals. There's a couple of rx's to go with it, along with charger. Can take to Cosford. David Jones.

Hi Robert, check out my build thread for the 1/4 scale Sea Fury, (page 1 of your new projects, item no 5). There are some pics of my throttle and choke servo installation about half way down page 5. David Jones.

Re: DH Moth Minor undercarriage

Thanks Peter, they do look the dogs, pricey, but very nice. I've told my mate so it will be up to him if we go for them. I would have hoped there would be something nearer to home. David Jones.

DH Moth Minor undercarriage

I am building a 1/4 scale DH Moth Minor from the Jerry Bates plan and we need to source a pair of sprung oleo legs to suit the model. We have tried contacting Unitracts but have had no reply. Does anyone know where we could get a pair from, preferably off the shelf? The pic is a scan off the plan, t...

Re: Zirolli B25 Mitchell build

Thanks for the update and video Dave and Chris. Dave Johnson did comment that the model didn't feel as "agile" as he remembered from the previous test flights before the model was finished. For the second flight we added more aileron throw which did improve the handling somewhat. The gener...

Re: D.H. Moth Minor dihedral

Hi Dave, thanks for that, I've seen the two "joiner web" pieces on the plan, that's where I've got the 5 degrees from, the larger one that fits in the outer panel. I'm feeling more confident that I've got it right. I've PM'd my email address to you. Dave Jones.

Re: D.H. Moth Minor dihedral

Nice one Pete, thanks for the reply. I've got an NGH 25 in My Apache Chipmunk, not flown with it yet but does seem to be loads of power (replaced an ASP 180 four stroke). I've had a look at some three view drawings of the Moth Minor and there does seem to be a lot of dihedral, so I'm thinking the 5 ...
