Re: DLE 55RA Silencing

John - two or three years ago I made a couple of exhaust restrictors for the engines in Ted Allison's Rapide. The engines were two DLE 55's. We tried various configurations for hole pattern and size and finished up with pepper-pot arrangement of five 3.3mm holes in each restrictor. The restrictors w...

Re: Carbon wing tube and sleeve

I've used this company in the past for carbon fibre sheet and had good service.

They should be able to assist with wing tube material.

Tiger Moth

Looking for Tiger Moth air frame - either quarter or third scale.
Flair quarter scale preferable, but I know they're not so common now.

Re: Failed bearing

Barry - I see your latest photo of the rear bearing and this is a sealed, pre-packed bearing, however on your initial photo showing the front bearing this is metal shielded (not sealed) and not lubricated. If you've been supplied from Model Fixings with sealed bearings as per your last bearing photo...

Re: Failed bearing

Barry - The seals you talk about are "metal shields" and not seals and will just stop dust and small debris getting into the bearing. The shield will not stop oil, although it will restrict it a bit, hence the rear bearing is still ok. If you fit a shielded bearing to the front it will not...

Re: Failed bearing

Morning Barrie - Looking at the engine drawing for the 26cc CRRC Pro V2, the front crankshaft bearing does not get lubrication from the crankcase. There is a seal 26121 before the bearing. The type of bearing you need for the front is a rubber-sealed pre-packed bearing. The back bearing is open (uns...

Re: Problems with 1.20 2 stroke

Hi James - It's a bit strange if you've had the engine from new and know it's history. If there are no signs of mechanical damage and everything looks true then it would be worth it to reassemble according to the drawing with two shims for the head and a gasket set for the liner and back cover. If i...

Re: Tillotson carb

Barrie - When the engine is running from idle through intermediate, to high speed the fuel from the carb is provided from three different ports - initially the primary port, then the primary and secondary ports, and finally primary, secondary and high speed ports. All the time accurate metering is p...

Re: Tillotson carb

Barrie - a couple of things to check with the Tillotson HS carb 1. In the atmos.chamber end of the carb check that the centre stud of the diaphragm is hooked onto the inlet control lever, and not resting on top. 2. Check that the height of the needle control lever is correct i.e. flush with the top ...

Re: Problems with 1.20 2 stroke

James - You can initially take off the back cover 2 and check for any mechanical contact between the bottom end bearing and the bottom of the crankcase, and/or the inside face of the back cover. You can then go further and take off the cylinder head and remove the liner and then piston and con-rod a...

Re: Problems with 1.20 2 stroke

James - It sounds as though there is possibly some damage/misalignment with the crankshaft/and or con-rod. This could have been initially caused with excess fuel in the cylinder when trying to start. This distortion could cause the piston travel to increase slightly and allow the piston to hit the p...

Ted Allison's Rapide
