Air data sensors

I really like the looks of the NASA OV-10 Bronco with its air data boom down the starboard size of the fuselage like the lance of a knight on horseback and the AOA sensor booms on the tip of each wing. http://www.ov-10bronco.net/Pix/USCivil/NASA/nasa_ov10a_n524na_n636na_larc_hangar1.jpg I’d really l...

Re: Workshop Planning

Being able to raise and lower the work surface sounds very useful. Has anyone tried using a structural jig for assembly? If so was it worthwhile and was it one which allowed the fuselage or wing to be rotated about its long axis? I can see that being very useful if in a rigid jig to allow fit up and...

Wing transport

Someone with a citreon Berlingo came up with a neat way to load large rc aircraft wings.
http://www.berlingoforum.co.uk/thread-515.html

Two bolts and an extendable wardrobe rail.

With a bit of plastic and some foam I bet you could even make fitted carriers for different wing sections.

Re: Workshop Planning

Ok so definitely a central workbench. Possibly on flip down castors so it's sturdy but can also be moved if needed.

Any other tips?

Re: Workshop Planning

I've also admired some jig systems previously. Especially the magnetic one done by airfield models. http://www.airfieldmodels.com/information_source/how_to_articles_for_model_builders/tools/magnetic_building_board/index.htm Does anyone have particular thoughts about their layout and how it makes it ...

Workshop Planning

I'm starting to plan a workshop to have a proper place to lay up wings and build models. Previously I've just done it in the house and i'm looking forward to having a dedicated space for building. Does anyone have any advice for layout or structure? It will be about 4m by 8m Currently i'm planning a...

Re: Flight Test support

Using a different system to the proprietary systems of Hitec & Futaba allows me to customise my sensors, sample rates and in flight commands to an extend not possible with a commercial solution. I generally log data to an SD card on the aircraft at a higher rate than I send over the telemetry sy...

Re: Failsafe- Throttle down but what about the control surfa

It's an interesting point that the appropriate fail safe can be different depending on where the aircraft is operating and the specific risks. Military and commercial RPAS are often intended to return to a set point when the link is lost. However I've read numerous reports on military RPAS where on ...

Flight Test support

Greetings to you all. I met some of you at Gaydon and saw first hand your fantastic aircraft. I'm a PhD student at Cranfield University and my research looks at the health of remotely piloted aircraft and the different methods that can be used to improve the risk margin and reduce long term maintena...

Re: Failsafe- Throttle down but what about the control surfa

With slightly more complex research aircraft our safety case and danger area is based on how quickly we can ditch the aircraft after giving a defined amount of time to re-establish the link. The control logic is such that after the defined time period the engines are cut and the control surfaces are...

Re: CAD drawings/ Help needed

If you need some CAD support modelling the output of the scans I would be happy to assist.
I'm a PhD student at Cranfield and all I'd ask is permission to write the design up as professional practice.
