Tom Gallacher

It is with much reget that I must inform you of the passing of longtime member Tom Gallacher. He was a familiar face at shows until illness curbed his longer distance travels but he was one of the main "movers and shakers" in setting up the Strathaven shows in Scotland. He also had a great...

Re: Diacov 1000

Hi, I used diatex 1000 with the Delux Materials equivalent to Balsaloc with excellent results on my BU180.(build thread is on the forum) I tacked the Diatex in place with a medium heat before shrinking and fixing at the highest setting on my modelling covering iron. Sheeted areas were coated in G4 p...

Re: Bucker Student

An eventful time since my last post. I was getting on well with reinstating my man shed, workshop, whatever you want to call it. Work was going apace to clear space to work on the build after my wife decided, in my absence, the workshop would be better utilised as storage space and surprise, surpris...

Re: Bucker Student

Just a quick update.I took delivery of my prosthetic leg in the middle of January and was walking unaided a day after getting it. Could only use it for short periods to start with as it's like breaking in a new pair of boots and my stump needs to toughen up. ( A bit like all you whingers out there. ...

Re: Bucker Student

I have been thinking about what I can do outside the workshop. I drew up the stencils for the Bu180 on my vinyl cutter program, however the smallest lettering that I can cut and weed out successfully is 5mm and some of the lettering will be 3mm to remain scale and look right. So I decided to try wat...

Re: Bucker Student

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. Its not the end of the world and I do have another leg so according to all the professionals, I am a prime candidate for a prosthesis (what I like to think of as a giant platform shoe :D ) and the technology has come on in leaps and bounds over the past fe...

Re: Bucker Student

Sorry, it has been nearly three months since my last post. I can assure you that it has not been due to loss of interest in the model, but rather to complications with my diabetes. Back in mid August I developed a blister on my heel and visited the hospital podiatrists as an out patient (as per stan...

Re: Bucker Student

It's been a while since my last post. With the easing of lock down, my engine whisperer was able to visit and we (He  ) finished the E.I conversion of the AvioMac twin for the Genesis. The Student was put on the back burner to get the Genesis finished and out of the workshop. IMG_1033 Large Web...

CG position for genisis

Can anyone tell me where the CG position for the LMA Genisis is located from the L/E.

My set of plans are currently residing in Air Cadet premises which will be in lock down until September at the earliest and I'm almost ready to balance the model.

Thanks in anticipation,

Dougie.

Re: Bucker Student

Working on the cowl now. I thought I would experiment with a metal skinned finish as I'm notorious for dragging the nose along the ground on landing! Starting point was the basic frame. I modified this with hard points to fit the hinges for the scale engine access panels and skinned the top an...

Re: Bucker Student

The lower litho' panel has now been fitted and the hinge between the top and bottom panel simulated with 1/16th polystyrene rod from Evergreen plastics. Re: Bucker Student

I used my preferred method for making rib stitching. One of the battens I used for jigging the fuselage was repurposed to make the stitching strips with panel pins hammered along both edges at 1/4 inch spacing for the wings and 1/8 inch for the control surfaces. A big box of panel pins, best part of...

Re: Bucker Student

Fuz is now covered IMG_0693 Large Web view.jpg I had to make the infill where the L/E meets the fuz and used a small block of chemiwood for this. I taped a piece of glass paper to the fuz and rubbed the chemiwood in a fore and aft direction on the glass paper until I had the correct profile and then...

Re: Flying

All good common sense advice. However, Flying is only allowed in England at the moment. If you live in one of the devolved nations you are still under the lock down rules for that nation.

Be careful and be safe, we've lost enough people to this virus already.

Re: Bucker Student

It was time to offer up the wings to the fuz for the first time....disaster!! :o :o . The starboard wing was a perfect fit, the port wing was two degrees out and would not fit flush, with a noticeable gap between the fuz and the wings L/E. After wracking my single neuron to work out why, it finally ...

Some more scale detailing work. Next up was the ground handling grips at the rear of the fuz. 14 Large Web view.jpg I followed the tutorial Harry Harland did on working lithoplate on this site at one time and I know I am probably getting into granny and eggs territory here but I'll run through how h...

Re: Bucker Student

I made up the throttle quadrants, all be it, truncated versions, from lithoplate, Chemiwood and dress making pins and printed the labeling on to waterslide decal paper. IMG_0651 Large Web view.jpg IMG_0650 Large Web view.jpg I know they are not 100% accurate, but as they are hidden down in the cockp...
