Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster

Hello all Just doing a follow up with regards to the Lancaster. I have weighed it and it came out to approximately 96 lbs. I am wondering what other builders came up with as a final weight? I am also going to need to add nose weight to her. Will do some beefing up on the front end before doing so. H...

Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster

Been almost a year since my last post, where does the time go.
Still need to acquire the Landing gear and build the nacelles, but she is coming together.
Hope to post more in the future as winter sets in and the Covid situation remains unchanged.

Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster

Have also worked on the wings, doing the individual panels, etc.
Such a big project and all the little things one day will add up to a completed airplane.

Re: Lancaster

That looks awesome Andy, sure has a presence just sitting there. I see you also did your bomb bay doors, they look good. What are you doing for the linkage for them. I have been scratching my head over this one. Curious as to what you did. Thanks for sharing the pictures, looks good. I need to move ...

Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster

A little more progress on the Bombay doors.
Put in some supports along its length to add strength, as well as the front and rear brackets for the linkage.
Still lots of tinkering to be done, but I will get there slowly.

Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster

I think I have the gap figured out. Currently the doors I made are a perfect fit, which unfortunately leaves no room for hinges, lol. So I am taking off, 1/8th of an inch from each door which will give me the clearance needed for my hinges. The gap will be filled in with balsa, and shaped so it will...

Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster

Robert I have attached a picture of the glue I am using for the rivets, as for the needle size, not sure, it is very small, lol. The glue is fairly thick so your needle needs to be able to pass the glue through it. I have also used in the past, those small glue tips you can buy for hard to reach spo...

Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster

Here is a picture of the actual hinge. After further studying the picture, it looks like the outer portion on the Bombay door has a curved filler piece that wraps around which in turn makes for a close fit against the fuselage. I think I might be able to fill in the gap on the bottom of the door, an...

Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster

Here are a few pictures of my Bombay with doors just tacked with two small hinges.

The gap can be filled in from the inside against the door when it is closed to seal the Bombay. It won't be noticeable in flight and the doors will be open when it is on the ground.

Re: Tony Nijhuis 1/6 Scale Lancaster

I did notice from this picture, a noticeable gap between the Bombay doors and fuselage.
I might be overthinking this, lol.
