Re: Zenoah 38 Exhaust

What is the diameter of your two pipes chris. Total diameter too large can have a big effect on noise output.
If you have more than enough power in reserve you could reduce both of these.
Only other other alternative with the same silencer is to open the silencer and fit baffles.
Tony.

Re: Hobbyking Covering

Hi Pat. I had to repair my hangar 9 Valiant last year and my only source for the genuine heat shrink covering material was Hobby king. The exact colours too. I believe it may possibly be ultracote. This covering offers the same Qualities and Characteristics as Profilm, very high temp covering, stron...

Re: Zenoha 38 magneto lead broken

Alan.just to put your mind at rest about the Rf gremlins you refer to. This is RF generated from within, not from the outside. In a Capacitor Discharge unit, there is a very high voltage spike emitted and it Must be screened metallically from the plug right back to the ignition unit output. If you h...

Re: Zenoha 38 magneto lead broken

Alan, Unless you have knocked a chunk off the casing you won't need to resort to JB Weld If the casing is cracked only and you can clamp it or strap it enough to close the gap then a good quality super glue will do just fine. Just make sure the HT lead is fully home. A drop of accelerator and job do...

Re: Prop size on a Zenoah 26 in a WW1 bipe?

Hi Martin. The main reasons that a magneto engine is difficult to start could be the magneto air gap, and/or the cranking speed. The voltage generated will be too low to create a good spark if it is not turned over fast enough. There is a technique to swinging a mag engine which some may find not to...

Re: ferrite rings

Hi Arthur. Although I have never used a powerbox kill switch, the reason for glitches is normally that RFI is getting back into the receiver through the powerbox to receiver signal lead. The normal procedure would be to place your ring on receiver plug lead close to the receiver. It won't hurt to pu...

Re: Engine/silencer joint repair

Hi again Barrie, just a thought. Not all ignition systems are timed the same. Here is an extract from one of the forums which is relative to your engine ignition system. Only one small thing - the thor 45 manual states the timing for the original ignition as 12 to 14 degrees not 18 degrees BTDC. Ret...

Re: Engine/silencer joint repair

Barrie, the method I use to secure my pitts silencer involves a bit of technowelding. The enlcosed pictures are self explanetary. It really isn't very difficult. Just research on youtube and do a little practice first. Thread the rod one end and make a shape to fit the silencer on the other. use a c...

Re: Engine/silencer joint repair

Barrie, the ignition should fire just as the magnet is exiting past the sensor.
How do you intend to to determine how many degrees advance that is?

Re: Engine/silencer joint repair

Barrrie if you get the flange as true as possible and the indentations do not run from the exhaust port inner to the edge of the flange I think you will get away with it because the silicon will fill the recesses. Running rich may cause some vibration but not overheating. Just make sure that your ig...

Re: Engine/silencer joint repair

Name of engine Barrie ? The pitts silencer should not melt with a normally running engine. Period. I have a theory about using exhaust gaskets which I put into practice. The ends of the exhaust flange when tightened will compress the gasket more than at the centre resulting in bowing eventually. It ...

Re: pete - tbobborap1 at the lma elvington show - 2017 (video thread)

Hi Pete. This Aircraft was built by my old mate and probably the most prolific large model builder in the LMA, namely Ian Turney White. He has just finished a complete refurb on this very old model - I think maybe 20 to 25 years at least. If you wish to contact him his details can be obtained from m...
