Re: Show helpers and pilots

Yes, don't overthink it. The logical conclusion of that train of thought is to make sure your helper hates you and is just itching to get the chance to 'land' your model for you!

Re: Show helpers and pilots

There generally are some in the area, but can't be guaranteed or made a requirement to have them there. The 20 Dawn Patrol helpers should each be with their pilot doing their helper job (extra eyes and ears of the pilot), not reading the paper in the pits until it's time to collect the model and han...

Re: Show helpers and pilots

The job of the helper and how to use and work with them appropriately is in the proficiency test for that very reason. To fly an over 20kg model in public, yes. To take over in an emergency to steer the model towards a safe crash site, no, that's not going to have the boys round. It's again for the ...

Re: Show helpers and pilots

Yes, the job of the helper is to be additional eyes & ears for the pilot, t'was ever thus. We have to take into account the type of event we’re running. We’re aiming for family friendly entertainment, both for the punters and the participants. We are expecting people with families to come and fl...

Re: Show helpers and pilots

That's covered under- should be competent enough to be able to steer a model to safe crash site in case of pilot incapacitation. As there's lots of variables (transmitter mode, transmitter tray, switches on the top of sticks, neck straps and so on) or combinations of variables, we're not going to ma...

Re: Show helpers and pilots

No, we recently made it a requirement that the helper was an LMA member, it wasn’t mandatory before. What is mandatory for next year is that everyone in the actual pilots box & startup box is a pilot, necessary helper or official. Casts of thousands, uninvolved family members and so on are right...

Re: Show helpers and pilots

Peter, It was in the summer Journal.. The LMA Committee has recently decided that any pilot’s helper must be an LMA member, must be competent to do the job, and ideally a competent pilot who could take over flying a model in case of an emergency. The helper doesn't need to have a proficiency or be e...

The members area and the forum are completely separate and have separate logins. You can set the passwords on both to be the same though. On both the members area and the forum, clicking on 'forgot password' will see a new one mailed to you. Instructions on how to set the passwords to be what you wa...

Re: The LMA Web Site

It is unfortunately a chunk of work to transfer a build thread into a web page...which is why we've not done it! We have considered a few times doing such things, but like everything, it's the time & effort of doing it. A 'gash' way of preserving the build threads would possibly to print the who...

Re: Autumn Journal

There's nothing wrong with the current LMA logo, but one of the issues we have is that we don't actually have a 'definitive' LMA logo. The original will have been hand drawn with a quill back in the mid Cambrian period, so no master high resolution digital version exists. Every time we need a logo o...

CAA Permission For Model Fying Over 400ft

The recent 2018 amendments to the Air Navigation Order will come into effect on the 30th July, making it illegal to operate any unmanned aircraft (including model aircraft) above 400ft. The UK model flying associations (BMFA, SAA, LMA & FPVUK) have been working in close collaboration in ongoing ...
