Re: venting petrol tank

Hi again Colin, No, I can't guarantee zero venting of some fuel, but the tank is being sucked by the engine and the fuel in the tube which, at a given moment, is going to the "top" of the tank will suck back into the tank. As Paul says you could put some extra volume in the tubes but I dou...

Re: venting petrol tank

Colin; no need to fabricate your own tank. I just buy the plastic tank and some extra fittings from Glen although I did turn up the model outer skin fittings on my lathe as I wanted specials. Two pictures attached; the first is the tank for my Hostetler Cessna with the two vent fittings installed. T...

Re: venting petrol tank

I have used the "stunt tank" layout we used to use on control-line models for my Super Greenley. This uses two vents. There are pipe fittings on both the top and bottom of the tank. Two more pipe fittings are provided in the top and bottom fuselage skin. Tygon tubing connects the top tank ...

Re: Chord of a wing

Gerard; for 1/ consider only the outline of the wing - its 'shadow' if you like. The chord is the average 'width' of the wing measured along the direction of flight. It is sometimes easier to calculate it from chord=area/span. Chris [2938]

Re: noise and how it is measured

I know its old but there is a Model Engineer write-up by Edgar T Westbury on http://www.metalstop.com/technical/Silence.pdf which explains the topic nicely. There is also an article on silver soldering and silencer making in AMI for December 2006 which uses empty spray cans - a bit slimmer than Gaz ...

C of G of biplanes

We know that the C of G of a conventional monoplane is around 25 - 28% of the chord but is there any guideline for the C of G of a staggered biplane please?

Flaps controls

Futaba T6 series transmitters have now abandoned the flaps lever/potentiometer for a switch. As I use take-off flap and various landing flap settings on one model it is now tied to an ageing 35mHz transmitter. I can find nothing on Futaba.com or Ripmax to suggest options for this. Can any of our rad...

Cessna F-152

Now I have discovered how to resize my photos to 600 x 440 here is a shot of my Wendell Hostetler Cessna 150/152. This was built from a Belair partial kit and has a Zenoah 45 up front. The flaps use the Robart Fowler flap guides.

Re: C of G

Pete, for a 'conventional. aircraft like this a C of G range of 25% to 30% is usually quoted. 26% is therefore well forward and a safe starting point. If you subsequently want to make the aircraft more sensitive you can reposition batteries etc later to move the C of G back. The Toni Clarke web site...

Re: C of G

If its any help; the C of G quoted for my Hostetler Cessna 150/152 is 128mm back from the LE on a chord of 490mm - that is 26%.
