All The CAA have today issued ORS4 1345 which superseeds 1332 which required us to all have an operator I.D to make our models legal from 23rd Feb 2020. This new ORS4 has now put the date back to 30th June, which is the proposed date for the new EASA regulations to come into play. With no requiremen...
John- did they actually come on to the field without permission? I hope you pointed out that they and their vehicle is not insured.... Bob We welcome them onto our site and always have a chat and a brew. It is good to have them onside. It is the same team that drive down the lane I live in and know...
Hi All I have received my Operator ID (Thank you LMA) and in reading all the supporting documentation it does seem to imply that I only need to put my ID on all my models that weigh between 250g and 20kg. It does not seem that I need to put the number on any of my models that weigh over 20kg. Is thi...
Hi Ian I have to disagree that you have "true redundancy" With all 4 batteries connected to just one positive and 1 negative "rail" if you have a servo go short (see previous comments) it will pull the power from all 4 batteries and you will still have a problem. It would be bett...

Yes Rob, but it does say you need to carry a copy of the 1331 Exemption ! J
Interesting point guys. Exemption 1331 states in para 3 that you must carry a copy of the exemption along with proof of competency. "A copy of this exemption, along with a copy of the relevant documents (membership and award certificate)referred to in paragraph 2 above must be carried by the re...
Dougie Diatex 1000 is what you need. As stated in my previous post I use heat active glue to apply it as it is much easier than using the "cement" they recommend. On my vintage gliders I use Epifanes varnish on the sheeted (ply) parts and doped Diatex on the open structures but if the shee...
Dougie Rather than doped nylon I suggest you use Diatex, available from Skycraft Ltd, Spalding. We use Diatex 1000 on all our fabric covered models. It is a heat shrink fabric that we attach to the structure with a heat activatable glue (Balsloc or similar). Once covered and tightened with gentle he...
Thanks for that John, the servo is programmable so I can set everything up exactly as I need to prevent bind or slop. :D Doug A programmable servo will not help with binding or slop. It is important that the geometry of the horns is correct. The easiest way to do this is make a copy of the rudder h...
Elliot Whilst at the glider fair in Germany earlier this year I was very impressed with 2 tugs that were very quiet. One was fitted with a DLE 111 and the other with a DLE 222. Both were fitted with MJM silencer cans and headers. I had not come across this company before but it is worth investigatio...
Close loop direct to the servo is the way to go. Just make sure the geometery of the arm on the servo and the rudder are the same to avoid binding or slop in the cables as the servo moves.
Might be worth trying here ? https://www.pyramidmodels.com/shop/section.php/2/1/decals_for_all_types_of_model_aircraft Lee at Pyramid Models is my normal go to guy but spoke to him and he will not cut Roundel masks. OK for the lettering though and he does a good job on them and I have been using hi...
