Re: 2020 Renewals

The email you received confirming your membership renewal has a link in it to download your membership document, or if you go into the members area you can also download it from there at any time.

Re: renewals

There is no need to have any remote pilot competency to register as an operator. To register as an operator through the LMA you just ask us to register you when renewing, that's it. The CAA exemption for remote pilot competency are separate to operator registration, you just need a copy of the exemp...

Re: 2020 Renewals

If you renewed at the AGM it will take Lynne a little while to enter your renewal details, so remain calm, you don't need next years membership document for a couple of weeks, so give Lynne half a chance. If you selected the option on the renewal form at the AGM to request CAA registration, you don'...

Re: 2020 Renewals

Online renewals are now available, in the members area as usual.

New for this year is the option to request that we register you as an operator with the CAA. If you do not select yes, we won;t register you.

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

Pilot A and Pilot B are both registered operators. Pilot A asks Pilot B to test fly his model. The model crashes and causes third party damage. Any insurance claim would be made against Pilot B as he was flying the model. If the location and nature of the crash indicate that the law has been broken...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

Nothing's changed since the last email I sent to everyone a couple of weeks ago- Aircraft Marking - For Everyone As an operator, you will have to mark all of your in-scope aircraft- - On the fuselage (or main body) - In clear block capital letters at least 3mm high - Visible from the outside or insi...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

It's 2 sheets of paper from the caa to stick in the bottom of your tx box on the off chance the feds turn up.
That and your membership doc is all you need.

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

You don't need the actual certificates if it says on your association membership card/document what qualifications / certificates you have.

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

If you go on the CAA website, register as an operator and pass the pilot competency test you will get an operator ID and a flyer ID. You don't need an operator ID to get a flyer ID and you don't need a flyer ID to get an operator ID. A CAA flyer ID just shows that you have passed the CAA competency ...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

Renewals should be available in a week, maybe a bit longer. We need to make changes to our membership machinery to deal with the CAA registration & finish off the insurance arrangements for 2020 before we can start the renewals & issue all the membership documents. As long as you've requeste...

Re: New DRES number query.

Andy, The CAA have updated the official word to allow marking inside a window as I asked them to. Now says... How to label your drone or model aircraft Your operator ID must be: visible from the outside, or within a compartment that can easily be accessed without using a tool clear and in block capi...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

Hold that thought on the insurance, further information on that angle should be forthcoming in the near future.

Don't forget though that although insurance is a very nice to have, there is no legal requirement for it for model aircraft under 20kg

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

Not on LMA ones, no. Other associations I can't say. Everyone who registers as an operator via whatever route will have a confirmation / certificate directly from the DRES system. That will be their proof of operator registration. For competency, there will be 2 ways to show demonstrated competency ...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

I can't speak directly for the BMFA, but the ability for associations to register their members with the CAA DRES scheme has been made available by the government to make registration easier for association members. It does not mean the association needs to keep any additional records, simply pass o...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

No matter how many associations you may be a member of, you will only have to register once, either through an association or directly on the CAA website. Registration through an association will be entirely optional, and if you choose to do it the association will pass your registration information...

Re: Mobile phones on flight line

In that case it should be fairly straightforward to replicate if it was the phone. Do a range test and ring the phone / download something onto the phone and the radio should stop working.

If it can't be replicated, it probably wasn't the phone.

Re: Mobile phones on flight line

Radio-wise the phone part of a mobile phone is not on 2.4GHz, but the WiFi & Bluetooth are. I've also heard the tales of mobile phones doing strange things to computer transmitter memories, but it was a looooong time ago, and I've never actually seen or experienced it in practice, and not heard ...
