Re: Elvington Show

Sorry to hear of the damage to that lovely aeroplane. However, I think we can all rest assured that the ‘irrepressible’ Rawcliffe will have it duly repaired (isn’t that what the dark days of winter are for, Brian?)…

Re: Andrew Taylor

Sad to hear the news of Andrew’s passing - another LMA stalwart leaves us. He was never really one for the big shows but his contributions on the Board of Guardians and, of course, his generosity in making his farm at Binham available for the many Fly-Ins enjoyed by rank and file members over the ye...

Re: MIG 15

Now the test flight's done, I've decided to give the finish some weathering.

Early Russian jets were a bit rough and a pristine paint job is a bit unreal to my eye...

Sad News

NMAS - 1 of 1.jpeg Just received the sad news that long-time LMA member and NMAS Longhorsley founder member, Doug Bertram, passed away at the age of 92 yesterday. It was quite sudden as he came up to the field just a couple of weeks ago and was in good spirits, if a little frail. He'll be a huge mi...

Re: MIG 15

Well, it's finally finished... What a nightmare it's been doing the canopy - glazing, mounting rails, getting it to slide properly - and - lock with the scale locking mechanism. Feels like I've spent more on this than the rest of the model put together..! Now on to a full assembly, motor runs and ra...

Re: More very sad news

Very sincere condolences to Mary and family. Ted was also a founder member of NMAS at Longhorsley and will be very much missed at the club.

Re: DH Vampire

Well, after all the heartache, got a couple of test flights at Elvington last week. Flew very nicely after some trimming and landed with full flap on rails. My venerable, 17 year old J-M Merlin 160 still runs impeccably and has enough power to get off runways and enable scale flight. However, our sl...

Re: SAD NEWS

One could not have but the highest regard for Derek. Generous, affable and eternally positive throughout many years of chronic airways disease. A 'go to' man for advice as his engineering expertise was top class, as was the standard of his modelling. A true 'LMA Type'... One of the special people in...

Re: MIG 15

Progress on the MiG. Doesn't look much, but a lot of time expended masking/spraying the insignia.
Flightline Graphics masks help a little, of course!!

Re: MIG 15

Finally, progress and I've completed spraying of the finished colours.
Using the Scotchbrite pad, I've 'burnished' the finish to give a flatter texture which, to my eye, is more realistic than a high gloss one.
Now for the insignia using masks from Flightline Graphics...

Re: NEXT sport jet by Mirce

John is right, OTT...

Another option which I’ve used on several models is 0.8mm Finnish Birch Ply, e.g. my 1/4 Vampire. Not cheap, but it makes an immensely strong wing and acceptable weight, as it just needs to be covered with lightweight glasscloth and a minimum of resin.
