LiPo danger

The warning 'Don't leave LiPo's charging unattended' is not without substance. The battery in the pics was on charge in my workshop using the same LiPo charger that I have been using for years and the battery had been charged many times. I happened to pick it up to move it to one side and noticed it...

Re: Quadcopters

There was an item on our area news a few months ago about a small quad being flown in someones garden, the unprotected blades caught a small child in the face and seriously cut one eye. The damaged eye could not be repaired so that child will spend the rest of its life blind in one eye. Nothing was ...

Quadcopters

Paid a visit to my local Maplin store recently and noticed a large poster explaining the rules on flying quads and model aircraft bought as 'toys'. I'm just wondering how many people will really take any notice ?????

Re: Workshop heating

Just a warning about using free standing calor heaters. A few years ago I was spending quite long hours in my small workshop/office due to a contract with a deadline on it. I was using a calor heater without efficient ventilation, I know, my fault! but it was winter. After a couple of weeks I was fe...

Re: Workshop heating

If you can get a cheap or free supply of logs or any wood, try a log burner. Works in our large workshop. Just make sure it is away from anything that doesn't like heat and that it is totally closed up when you leave the workshop.

In the long winter months when your flying field is under water here is something to build in your workshop to pass the time.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w

Re: The One Show

Hooray !!! Congratulations Dave on getting a bit of recognition for us on the One Show. For years when I was on the committee I tried to get coverage on various events but the media thought we were all nerds flying balsa wood and tissue planes on bits of string. Well done, I hope the coverage gets a...

Additional engine failsafe

I have sold quite a few Failsafe units due to my article in the last Journal by people paying by cheque but I realise that in this modern world not everyone has a cheque book. If you would care to purchase one of these units I can arrange a Paypal invoice. Just contact me by Private message with det...

Use of our website

The LMA website does not seem to be getting the usage that other association sites attract considering the hundreds of members in the association. Not many discussions about the hobby, the equipment we use, experiences we come up with etc. etc. I go on to other forums and they are full of various co...

ADDITIONAL ENGINE FAILSAFE

I have put an item in 'Electric Stuff' on our website but to bring it to a wider readership I thought that if it was on this category I would get more feedback; The CAA requirement laid down in Article242 Air Navigation Order 2009 states that; (i) Any aircraft with a mass of more than 7Kg must be eq...

Re: Aviation humour

Was looking along the shelves of the Royal Navy bookshop at the naval base at Portsmouth. One shelf had a row of about 12 volumes of Anecdotes and Jokes from the Royal Navy. At the very end of the row was a book entitled Anecdotes and Jokes from the Royal Air Force. I looked through some of the Navy...

Re: BACKUP ENGINE FAILSAFE

Hi Steve, there is usually a capacitor in the RX that will deal with this, never the less a protection diode will not go amiss. Thanks for the suggestion so have added it to the diagram, also an extra protection diode to safeguard the RX if wrong polarity is applied.

BACKUP ENGINE FAILSAFE

The failsafe system that we use on our models is not 100% reliable. If the voltage supply to the receiver is lost then failsafe will not occur because it needs the working RX to set controls to preselected positions. If power is lost to the RX through any reason, broken connections, faulty cell, on/...
