Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

We've got copies of exemptions in our club hut. Alternatively you could keep copies in the car. It'll only be an issue on public sites. The plod are not able to keep up with county lines drugs gangs, cash machine thefts and car thefts, so a few old boys flying toy spitfires (as everything is a spitf...

Re: Thank you all drone owners

I completely agree Mike, that the random xmas toy brigade have resulted in this legislation. Gatwick was used as an excuse and hyped up to the advantage of this legislation. In terms of giving up and the hobby being ruined i'm not convinced. I've been flying for 30 years since I was a wee boy and wo...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

Re. People copying your number. Its unlikely, as most of us fly in a club or group with people we know so its unlikely they'll copy the ID.

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

The requirement to register is not until the 30th November for those less privileged than us lot in the trade so to speak.

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

The news channels and pages are full of the story in their headlines. This time tomorrow it'll all be forgotten until the 29th when it'll make headlines again. I hope the CAA have got a decent marketing strategy if they want 130'000 registrations by December. They had better put someone in every toy...

Thanks Pete, i'll give them a ring tomorrow. Its for a Mackay 45 i've had for 10 years and i was the third owner.

Do you know if the Bing can be changed for a walbro on those engines? It s Front induction 45cc?

Bing Carb gaskets

I'm looking for a supplier of gasket sets for a Bing 48 Carb. Does anyone know of a suitable source of gaskets for these carbs?

Thanks

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

Peter Bone MP who has proposed the bill seems like a thoroughly unpleasant character. Assuming the write up on Wikipedia is correct, he was opposed to things like the minimum wage, think the NHS is Stalinist and wanted to rename the August Bank Holiday Margaret Thatcher day. Worth a chuckle if you h...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

It’s been written by uninformed people with no idea of reality.
They clearly aren’t aware of ongoing work by the CAA on EC, which is far from reality at the moment.
MPs who have no clue trying to make laws.

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

I’ve just read the bill. Drone Regulation No2. As ever and usefully IMO it’s geared towards commercially available drones. I bet if we asked if it includes model planes they wouldn’t know the answer. Every drone must be registered to an owner and if it is sold the record must be changed. At the time...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

Our club was contacted by the local air ambulance operations team, asking where we flew because they were doing an update of their records and wanted to ensure they kept clear (subject to emergencies). I provided the information and sure enough they changed their transit route and now pass to the fa...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

So it seems that even without registration and laws all over the shop, clubs and it’s members are capable of using common sense and implementing rules and regs ourselves that are common sense.

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

At our shared site we have not banned drones but do not allow FPV, GPS, RTH or any automated flight systems.

To be fair we don’t have any members who fly drones at the field anyway.

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

There are airprox reports on both sides for models but they are usually in remote locations or at established sites. The issue isn't really us or airprox its the mass general untrained uncontrolled public who spend 50quid on a toy and cause havoc. Our club of 90 members shares a site with a small mi...

Re: An Update on the UK Regulations for Model Flyers

The top and bottom of this whole issue, whether people like it or not is the relatively recent advent of easy to fly, gyro stabilised camera platforms or as most of us call them, Drones. Twenty years ago we didn't have this conversation, 10 years ago we didn't have this conversation. Therefore, as i...
