Re: 1/4 scale PUCARA

Pucara update.! Its been covered and now painted, I can't show it fully as I'm unable to downsize it. I've also shown a picture of one of the quadra 100 that I'm fitting. You may notice that I've fitted a zenoah prop driver to it, as the original quadra one use's a 3/8 bolt and isn't really big enou...

Re: Zenoah 186 Triple with reduction drive

It flew previously on a 37 x14 prop and was woefully over propped, at least with the 36 x 12 the engine is hitting the right revs.
As you state you can dress it up how you want but 15hp on a 41kg model isn't going to set the world alight.

Re: Zenoah 186 Triple with reduction drive

Dave I to must agree, the spitfire is going to be a big plane and is going to need the triple unless you want to float it around. You've seen the tempest fly enough times with the twin, scale but could do with more power , I know my magneto engine isn't as powerful as yours but in a 1/3 spit it woul...

1/4 scale PUCARA

Attached are a couple of pictures of my current project a 12ft span Pucara. The model has taken an age to build, for me anyway, it has not been a particularly enjoyable project. Designed by Falcon aviation it's not how I would normally build which has caused the delay. I originally intended to put t...

Re: 1/10th scale Blackburn Beverley.

I must echo the above posts and state my sadness at Malcolm's death. Unfortunately I never got to meet him however was a great admirer of his dedication and courage to take on such a challenge even when seriously ill. The great sadness is that he did not get to see his wonderful creation take to the...

Re: Yak 3-9 1/3 scale

Beautiful model Mike, looking forward to seeing it in the air.

24 kg is light, it's going to be a big floater. My 128" fairey firefly weighs in at 41kg.

Alan

The Savoia Marchetti SM 79 is my aircraft, although it was mistakenly called a macchi all weekend.
It flew well, even managed to loop it, the full size was able to loop.
It's 1/5 scale at 13 ft.

I'll hopefully take it to the shows next year.

Re: 1/4 scale tempest mk5 maiden flight

Well the engine has been running faultlessly for a couple of years, I haven't touched it, it's done several hours. I flew it yesterday and on the landing approach a bang was heard and the whizzer stopped! I managed to get it dowe with negligible damage. I inspected it today and found the front crank...

Now that's my kind of engine test bed, love it, great idea.
A 40 x 22 prop,! Christ it's not far off full size.

Re: FAIREY FIREFLY MARK 5, 1:4 SCALE

I forgot to state that it flew woefully over propped, thus under powered. It's currently got a 37 x 14 so some experimentation is required.

Re: FAIREY FIREFLY MARK 5, 1:4 SCALE

SHEDOLOGY SUCCESS! Yes ,maiden flight undertaken today, all 42kg hauled into the air. I had ground run it, then taxied it with no signs of overheating. I was suspect about the balance point on the plan and was proved right as it flew tail heavy. I'll remove some of the 1 kg of lead in the rear. As n...

Re: FAIREY FIREFLY MARK 5, 1:4 SCALE

Hi
Picture of finished firefly, I have others that I'm unable to load.

Engine started easily enough and then reduction drive started to slip, so it's something I need to look at.

Re: 1/3 Spitfire

Love the project Dave, can't wait to see this grace the sky at Catton .
I'm just finishing putting some paint on the canopy of the firefly, it's come out at 41 kg /90 lbs so you're in the right area with your estimate for weight.

Re: FAIREY FIREFLY MARK 5, 1:4 SCALE

It's been a while since I've updated the firefly build .
It's all finished and the final inspection completed.
However my bench has been busy with yet another project a 1/4 scale pucara.

Re: Zenoah 186 Triple with reduction drive

Looks great Dave, had the final inspection on the firefly yesterday so it shouldn't be too long before I get my triple in the air.
I take it you started it by hand, I fortunately used my electric starter, I tried to start it by hand and couldn't move my arm for a week.

Re: FAIREY FIREFLY MARK 5, 1:4 SCALE

Thanks for the comments. I think shedology could be defined as "the blunt edge of non-technology " Hopefully I'll fly the bear this weekend at Catton garden party. The firefly has been put out to one side as ive reached the milestone of starting the engine. I'm currently working on the 335...

Finally uploaded the video after many attempts the link is- Karl Mander's inline triple: https://youtu.be/YJjLLm-OL4o The belt can be heard slipping and requires tightening. I've removed the prop hub bearings and secured them with Loctite bearing fit, this has performed faultlessly in my twin. The p...

Re: FAIREY FIREFLY MARK 5, 1:4 SCALE

SHEDOLOGY SUCCESS! Yes the crux of this project burst into life yesterday. The inline triple, all 186 cc was started, it sounds fantastic completely different to the twin with a proper cackle. I started it twice the second run of about five minutes with no problems with the mixture or carboration on...
