Re: new registration rebellion

Representatives of the UK Model Flying Associations met with the CAA yesterday afternoon (29th May 2019). The meeting was constructive, but without any real breakthrough to report at this stage. The CAA were only able to discuss potential options within the restrictive policy framework dictated by t...

Re: new registration rebellion

Yes, just read 'UK Model Associations' where it says 'BMFA'! The message is the same though, if you've not already responded to the consultation, emailed Baroness Vere, your MP & the CEO of the CAA pelase do. Several have asked for a template letter to make the job easier. We have deliberately n...

Re: new registration rebellion

None of the registration requirements apply to specific airframes, or the ownership of specific airframes. The registration is required only for the operator, be that a person or a company. The required registration information is name, address & DoB, and that's about it. Al of these requirement...

Re: new registration rebellion

Thanks folks. Yes it is soaking up a large amount of my time, but it will all be worth it in the end. I know lots of you have already responded to the consultation and written to your MP / aviation minister / head of the CAA, and if you've not done so please at a minimum respond to the CAA consultat...

Re: new registration rebellion

Email just gone out to all LMA members, and here it is in case any have missed it. Unfortunate that the Journal went to print just in time to miss all this! Morning, Following the recent publication of CAP1775 link here which launched a consultation on the CAA's proposed arrangements for registratio...

Re: 2019 Air Navigation order Update - Potentially Important!

John, Outside the 'blue' areas in the online map, you can fly models under 7kg as before, with no height limit as an LMA member with the permission we have from the CAA. Models 7-20kg are still limited to 400ft, but can be flown in all classes of airspace as long as outside the blue bit on the map a...

Re: 2019 Air Navigation order Update - Potentially Important!

look at the online map Bob, that shows the actual shape & size of all the zones.

That site is 1.6km from the nearest part of the Barton exclusion zone.

Re: 2019 Air Navigation order Update - Potentially Important!

Steve, No, the rules in the ANO have never differentiated between fixed, rotary or multirotary wing. Everything we fly comes under 'small unmanned aircraft', as do 'drones'. The CAA permission we got last summer to fly over 400ft applies only to fixed wing & single rotor helicopters which may be...

Re: 2019 Air Navigation order Update - Potentially Important!

Throwing a paper plane in Crawley town centre or the westbound car park of Heston Services on the M4 will soon become a criminal offence (contravention of the Air Navigation Order). As we know, laws only apply to the law abiding, and it would remain to be seen how the fun police would react to an ac...

It's 1.5km away, so not if being able to see the model during flight is a priority!

Re: 2019 Air Navigation order Update - Potentially Important!

Because today you cannot fly a model over 7kg in anything other than class G airspace without permission of the relevant air traffic control. As of 13 March, models over 7kg can be flown in any airspace that's outside any of the restricted zones, regardless of airspace classification. SDExample1.png...

The Department for Transport (DfT) have today published further amendments to the Air Navigation Order which impact on all users of Small Unmanned Aircraft, including the model flying community. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-drone-safety...

Re: 6.6 life battery’s, versus 6 volt servos

I've run futaba S128, S148, S3001 & S3003 all on 2S A123 packs and they all worked fine.

Don't forget, a fully charged NiMh battery is 1.5v per cell and a LiFe is 3.6v per cell (just to compare a 5 cell NiMh & 2 cell LiFe)

Re: advice please Walbro carb choke lever

It would solve the problem of a carb lever clash. Because the engine wouldn't run, the clash wont cause a problem.

Re: advice please Walbro carb choke lever

It'd be easier to turn the engine Rob? I don't believe Walbro would send a carb out of the factory with the throttle & choke levers clashing. But if the levers are clashing on (say) the left hand side of the carb as you look at it, just whip the 2 screws out, spin the carb round by 180 degrees,...

Re: Head Office

All the talk of the legalities of multiple insurers is mostly a red herring made of old wives tales. It stems from the olden days of dodgy ships that were sent off planned to sink, with multiple insurance policies taken out to claim from them all and make a tidy profit. You can insure something as m...

Re: Head Office

She sums involved are minimal in the grand scheme of things. I and the late Robin Sleight put quite a lot of work into a reciprocal arrangement between the LMA & the BMFA to allow mutual recognition of insurance & an option to only buy it from one association. When it came to the LMA AGM the...
