Dual battery setup

Hi all
I'm after some advice as to which dual battery setup you are all using, I'm planning to use two 3700 mah NiMH
or two 2s LiFe with a Futaba 617fs receiver with a maximum of 8 hitec 645mg servos the unknown being what type of switch do I go for? any help would be welcomed

I have just completed a 50 cc yak and a 100 cc extra.

I haven't flown either model yet but they are set up as follows
50ccer-
2x 2200 mah 6v rx packs and a 4.8v ign pack
They were setup on two jr heavy jr switches, the batteries plugged into the switch and then the lead that went to the rx had a diode to get the voltage to 6v and also give proper redundancy as the batteries went into 2 channels and were properly isolated in the event of a short circuit etc as the good battery couldn't be dragged down cause the diodes drop voltage and also act as a one way valve.

However upon range testing I was getting some really weird results (using a flight logger)

There were absolutely no frame losses on any of the satellites but instead it was going straight to a hold.

I changed the orientation of the satellites and no better. However it is impossible to go straight to a hold.

So I investigated further, checked all wiring, and I ended up with a pair of dodgy switches. One was only giving a output of 4v even minus diode, and the other had a short in the plug. Effectively it was operating on one battery at 4v.


Since that experience I have removed all switches in all of my petrols and turbine, and for now will plug straight in, but do research on jack plugs as switches.

The 100ccer is setup on a powersafe rx with 2lipos and two regs. Again plugging straight in.

I don't trust switches at the minute and I'm researching jack plugs as a alternative

I use SM Services Powersave (Split supply) on my P47 with four heavy duty switches.

SM also do a neat battery backer for £14, which isolates a faulty battery.

I think that the powersave unit has this built in. I run two RX batteries and two servo batteries via the unit so any one of the four switches or batteries can fail without me losing control. Another good thing is the power for the servo's comes direct from the unit and doesn't have go via the RX.
