servo plugs and wiring

Hi, Just want to pick a few brains. I'm currently building a 1/3rd scale Balsa USA Super Stearman. I intend to buy heavy duty switches and servo wire from SM Services but am stuck on the type of plugs i should use bearing in mind that i'll be plugging and un-plugging them each time i assemble/dis-assemble the upper and lower wings and tailplane ( i have four ailerons and removeable stab/fin ) do you still use the standard Futaba plugs or is there a better option on the market something that locks maybe ?

Kev, I like the Ashlocks from Ashtek, they are available upto 12 way, so you can double up on power connections if required and also put more than one servo on a connector thus cutting down on the number of plugs. They also as the name suggests lock which makes for great peace of mind.

If you go this route I would also suggest you get the crimping tool from Ash as well, and he also does great twisted HD silicon cable.

Thanks for the advice, After receiving your response i looked at the Ashtec site and the tutorial they seem really good quality. I was a little bit concerned about crimping my own plugs i remember Als Hobbies selling plugs and crimping sets a few years back and after seeing some of my friends attempts thinking that it could be a recipe for disaster, but its nice when you hear from someone who has used the product and who can vouch for it

Another vite for Ashlok connectors & their HD silicone coated wire....excellent product, been usng them for 4-5 years without a single issue.

I also purchased a crimp tool and had trouble with it.....since bought a replacement from RS (pricey) but it's superb.

RS # 481 - 516

It's intended for use with the old 'D Type' computer connectors but works on regular Ashtek and Futaba/JR pins equally as well. (Just make sure you sit down before looking at the price )
