Spitfire Power Question

Postby Jason Griffiths » April 22nd, 2010, 11:13 pm

Hello Everyone,

Right at the moment im building a Pica 1:5th sports scale Spitfire,iv been on the build board for 2 years now but it's getting there.

The question is what engine should i use,i would like to keep the standard wood engine bearers which come with the kit and now iv glued them all in don't want to start cutting it about if possible.

I know someone selling a Super Tigre 45 would this be too much for it,and also iv found a new Super Tigre 3000 would this be ok as im not sure what or what to go for.

Any info/help welcome 8-)
Thanks 8-)

Hi Jason,
Whats the expected all up weight going to be now youve more or less finished it?
There are issues with Super Tiger motors inverted, ( i know i flew a Mk V with a tigre 45 in for years) they don't like starting on a flick upside down, so you either get a starter that can spin it over so you can start it on its wheels or you start the plane upside down and turn it over once its running
If you want to keep it in the bearers then you are very limited to probably the larger glo engines OS 200 saito 180 etc, depending on the weight. Personally i would cut the bearers off, tiger 25/30/3250 all come with a bell housing as well as a option to mount on bearers, 45 comes with a metal mount as its rear induction. If you do that then you can choose the best motor for the plane, by this i mean if you need nose weight (most do) then you can put a bigger engine in.

Hope that helps :D

Andy

Hello Andy,

Iv not weighed it yet as still need to sand the fus into shape, then ill get it on the scales in the next few days for a rough weight as there is no servo's ft=itted yet eaither

I was thinking of a SC 180 or a Saito 180 as you sad think i best get sanding then weighing and get back on here ;)
Thanks 8-)

:) Howzit? Jason.
Send me your E-mail thingy, and I`ll send some pics. I am still a bit too STUPID for this "Satanic" computer goody.

Yes, it flies well, though a bit on the heavy side. Need to keep the speed up and takes some getting used to.
We fly out in the "Bundus" on a dirt strip, so a lot of rudder and elevator juggling, to prevent a nose-over in
the dirt. I initually had soft tyres on it, but the "Bloody" thorns kept puncturing them, so I put solids on..
You have nice grass fields there, so not a problem. :D :D Landings a bit faster than my Pitts planes, but
is awesome in the air. Also, our altitude is a lot higher.
