The traditional way to do this is to cover the plan with a clear polythene sheet or use a candle to wax the surface of the plan, both have drawbacks as adhesives do stick to the surface of the polythene and plan. Recently I came across an idea that Steve Duffy found worked a treat, Cellophane, a material that first appeared arround the second world war, it proof against adhesives sticking to it and it's cheap.

It comes in large rolls (12 metres long by 800 mm wide), big enough for most large model projects, whats more is under a tenner per roll; where do you get this wonder material, most JTF outlets sell it in their florist's department as this is what they wrap flowers in.

I've used wax(greaseproof) paper for donkey's years... cheap too!

Yes so have I, but cyno sticks to it, this stuff does not. The size is better than greaseproof paper too!.

I use self adhesive book covering from Rymans (Partners) it is easy to fix to a plan and gives permanent protection against all types of glue. Dave Phillipson, and old mate of Dave J. passed this tip on to me.

JTF is the Trade name of JT Frith, a trade only warehouse, but in truth anyone can get a trade ticket (I got one) look them up on Google, this is what I got for the URL http://www.jtf-wholesale.co.uk/

Yes Dave, Dave P. is well and playing a bit of golf and flying when the weather allows, I see or speak to him most weeks, he is quite a mine of information.

4001:- Advised by Rymans that they no longer do the self adhesive transparent Book covering ( Plan covering ) materiel, as mentioned recently by Barry. Anyone know anywhere else that still does it to cover a Plan 80 inches by 30 inches

What is the product name for these rolls of cellophane? I have looked at JTF online store and there is a search engine but it doesn't recognise any name that I can think of to put in. Unfortunately there is no JTF outlet anywhere near my area.

Gerard, the self adhesive film is also stocked by Wilko's last time I looked.

No trade name of this product as far as I know, but thats the troube with search engines, the name the trade apply to there items doers not always relate to the real world nameing that we think of, I found this roll in the flower arranging departmen, a big rack full of it.

Balsa Cabin do a very thin polythene for the specific purpose in very large folded sheets, nothing sticks to it not even that stuff wot sticks to blankets!

If i need t cover a plan i re-use the plastic bay my shirts are returned in from the ironing service in, when they are opened out they are about 6' long and 2' wide, and the're free.
