Hi,
Can anyone advise on a good gelcoat to use for making glassfibre cowls?

Depends on what resin you are going to use.
If using polyester, the supplier will also have the appropriate product.
Same goes for Epoxy, Polyester and Epoxy do not mix.

Hi Robin,
I'll be using epoxy resin, just wondering what was popular with modelers?

Glen at GLENS MODELS used to use a white gelcoat which was compatable with epoxy. Came from Germany in gallon pots. Might be worth a try ?

I mix my own from West 105 resin, colloidal silica (to thicken) and a small amount of grey epoxy pigment.
The silica has to be mixed mechanically to get best results......to do this, make a small but stiff wire hook and use it in a Dremel. If you mix only by hand, the silica doesn't mix fully in. You know when it's mixed as it turn a nice smooth glossy colour.
