easy start for 80cc twin

hi all

need some advice on battery mod for an easy start box for a Zenoha 80cc twin

the original battery are pants and died, they where NiMH

would like to upgrade the battery to either 2s life or lipo

question - what are Zenoha mags rated voltage max voltage?

if rated at 4.8-5volts i would use a 5 volt bec, or 6volts

as i understand a 2s life battery once charged puts out 8.4v +-, a 2s lipo is 8.6v +-

would the zenoha 80cc take that voltage? or would this cause damage to the mag?

My Z80 manual states that the easy start system is designed to work on a power supply between 4 and 6 volts.

My easy start box has just got 4 Duracell AA cells in. They need changing occasionally, but easier than faffing with charging and regulators for the amount of power used.

i know what you are saying rob but to charge up takes a few min to change a battery takes, seconds, but aa batteries have a short shelf live and go flat over lime life or lipo hold charge for quite while in fact i have one in my pump station for 6 months and its running at 89%

Richard, why change something that is not broken, has worked for years trouble free and costs pence to replace the batteries? you are only adding in an additional point of failure by trying to fit incompatible parts. Just change the batteries and get flying!

cary i would always say what not broke don't fix but in this case i forgot mention in the 1st post, it is broken the the battery holder is totally corroded, so before i go off buy a new a battery holder and part rewire, i just using what i have in stock, as a stop gap fix.

not sure i can start the 80 cc with out it???????

I wouldn't worry about starting the 80cc Richard. Focus on the 8cc and electric models you've got.

Rich, just make the simple repair with a replacement battery holder, which I'm sure you are competent to do. Don't bother trying to adapt something because getting it wrong will be costly especially if you need to start a Zenoah 80!
Otherwise just as I said before, get some flying done!

learning to fly was the easy bit landing is hardest, but i will get there

Just carry on practising circuits and bumps from two landing directions in varying wind conditions and figure eight circuits. Spend between now an Easter flying the same couple of trusty models time and time again until you can do it without thinking and then progress from there.

my trusty wot 4 has been a great starter moving up to low wing later this year.

Is it a wot4 foamy? If it is then it will out fly anything else you will ever see. I've had mine for about 4 years (although it looks like its 40 years old). Having flown dozens of different models, both mine and other peoples over the last 25 years, the wotty is the best. You can do absolutely everything with it and it won't bite you. Don't think its just a trainer!

Hi Richard, best thing you can do is fly the wot 4 and only the wot 4 untill you have worn it out, not killed it but worn it out,if you kill it get another and ware it out then start thinking about other planes. As Chris says it is the best thing to go from learning to almost 3d.
