WW1 hinges

Hi,
Does anyone know if the strap and tube hinges on german ww1 planes had the strap on the ouside of the covering, or if the covering went over the strap. I've looked on the net, and got a few windsock data files, but can't find a good close-up of the hinge line.

Cheers
Steve
