neutralising petrol/oil soak

Postby Dave Lowe » February 11th, 2017, 9:03 pm

I am at present refurbishing a Piper Super Cub which has been flying for the past 10yrs. Now I've stripped the Solartex off I find the front end is in need of re-glueing around the engine compartment, Problem is it is fuel soaked and feels greasey. Can anyone point me In the right direction to remove this before I start applying glue, ie. solvents etc.

Methalated spirits poured on the soaked area, let it evaporate, heat gun on, and the oil will bubble up, wipe it away, of coarse, be carefull with the heat,
