Hi

I have an elderley Duncan Hutson Tiger Moth, the covering now which looks extremely aged and realistic. I have a warp in all forur wings and would like to remove it without having to strip and recover the wings. Do you have any techniques i could try to resolve the problem?

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,
On that model the wings are very flexible and the rigging does all the work.

yes, my old Sopwith Pup had to have the rigging adjusted every time.

What are the wings covered with Bob . How was the.covering shrunk.
I left an eight foot model in small pop up tent once and it was a roasting day.
They warped quite a lot but I devised a system which got them straight again.
Cut a piece of wood about 3/8 to1/2" thick and twice the length of the wing chord.
You will have to cut the wing chord profile in the wood so it slips over the wing.
The overhang should be same as the chord length . You will then have attach a reasonable heavy weight attach to the end.
Place the wing on a flat surface an put some friendly weight on top to stop it moving.
You can use a heat gun along the length of the wing, then turn it over and do the same thing.
Leave to settle overnight and there is a good chance when you remove the weight the warp will have gone.
If it has gone a bit too far then repeat the process with a much lighter weight.
Good Luck. It worked on my old zlin.

Sorry Tom, just discovered I put Bobs name instead of yours. Bob must have wondered why I was telling that to him.
Bloody old age creeping on.
