Can anyone suggest a lightweight finish for a veneered wing? I have tried the Eze Dope with tissue..... not brilliant. The LHS don't sell dope anymore and I'm worried it might melt the foam in any case. I was thinking of sanding sealer and lacquer?

Ronseal works well. Trouble is it does not shrink. For tissue we used to wet it, let it almost dry, then put it on with thinned dope. What about lightweight glass cloth? You can then use Roneal or Pond Sealer.

Thanks Bob, I already use G4 and cloth on larger scale models. This is a lightweight electric glider and even the lightest 18gsm cloth I think will be too heavy. I was looking for a more ''natural finish'' with tissue or varnish maybe?

Afraid I went the plastic route on my electric glider, using Oracover. Two years on, it is still pristine.

Brown wrapping paper and PVA slightly watered. Cheap, tough sandable, takes paint well. On all sheet models it's brilliant. Did you ever see any of Chris Golds' models?

Do both sides at the same time, the shrinkage is strong but it is a great stressed skin finish

YDont think you can brown paper veneer, this was going to be my answer, until I saw the veneered foam bit, it will soak through the veneer, and spoil the glue bond, brown papering foam, yes, and very good it is too!

You can brown paper/pva bare foam cores, veneered foam or sheet balsa. a quick google will give you many variations on the theme.

Alan it's exactly the same as for covering a core without the veneer. AS long as both sides are done together there are no issues. It leaves a good finish for paint but can have further coats of PVA and be rubbed back for an even better finish.
