Electronic Ignition for V8

Postby Peter Smedley » July 15th, 2021, 11:07 am

A very good friend of mine is building a 95cc V8 petrol engine. We’re hoping to put it in a 1:3.5 scale Wittman Bonzo D-12 that is currently in the CAD stage.

My question is ...we’d like to run electronic ignition on the engine. How feasible does it seem? I can only see one solution, and that is to run a pair of four plug units. Apologies for forgetting the firing order at the moment.

I assume it will be a wasted spark when not on the firing stroke. Will this make any difference to engine performance?

If it has a half speed camshaft you can take the pulses off that.
