I'm posting this on behalf of Andrew Taylor who's been looking into using multiple receivers with JR DMSS radio.
For many years I have used two or more receivers (Duality) in models and not necessarily in those of over 20kgs. (That is as two or three individual self-contained flight packs)
Moving to 2.4, I purchased the DMSS system as used by JR as the transmitter was a virtual `clone` of my existing 35 set.
Reading the manual makes reference to duality, and highlights `Precautions to be taken………to reduce the Rx. voltage`. Also to note that operation without the satellite antenna connected reduces the sensitivity of the Rx. No further details on how to address the voltage are given.
A letter to the distributors/importers requesting details of the above have, after six weeks, been seemingly ignored.
The worry posed by this `head in the sand` attitude by the importers suggests that the telemetry/duality may represent a compromise to safe operation. The fact being that two telemetry broadcasts are being received simultaneously into the hand-held `transmitter` which is only capable of coping with one input. Clearly the telemetry so presented cannot make sense but this is irrelevant to my needs.
The point in all of this is that the operator of an unmanned aeroplane must be reasonably sure that he can carry out a safe flight. (Air Navigation Order or see Members Handbook page 16).
My view is that, in the question of dual use of Rxs, the manufacturers need to clearly state whether this method of use is approved and not leave the matter in such vague terms as the DMSS people. Most other manufacturers seem to fit, as standard, obligatory telemetry. (Receiver power pack). The DMSS system has the module fitted to the satellite antenna which perhaps, in the matter of duality, complicates the `sensitivity` issue as it should not be removed. This is a pity as the removal of this antenna from one of the pair might have answered my purpose.
I write this out of concern for other `duality` operators.
Comment welcome. Andrew Taylor
