Eurofighter, Typhoon

Postby Andy Boylett » February 19th, 2011, 7:22 pm

Hi,
My son Sam got a jet bought for passing his A levels last year. It is now nearly complete and just awaiting motor installation. Those that know us will know we only fly electric. The OS91 and fan will now be for sale.

Euan,
I also find glow rather nasty

The idea of a concrete runway sounds good. Where's that? Is it a club?

If we keep talking jets we might have to use the jet thread!! I ran the Eurofighter at full throttle in the back garden last night. I ran it stood up on so it was trying to lift its own weigth, which it did with ease. This was with 12 cell 5000mah's in.

Cheers, Andy

ps, I have copied this to the Jet thread.............................

Andy,
I have a concrete runway near to Barnard Castle, its not a club but a flying group run by me < i am not a club person??> we fly all sorts including my recent attempts at microlighting  .Your Typhoon is from a Pjp kit not the Comp Arf .More than suitable for your model but nothing over 20kgs.We fly on an adhoc basis in order to limit our impact on the surrounding area . At the moment i have a couple of sports jets on the bench ,one being a Yellow aircraft stingray and also a graupner hotspot that myself and another are completing. If you have a look in the edf section of Rc grups under my user name of egall232,Andy although i have had my issues with your particular club you and Sam are more than welcome to come over and have a fly drop me a pm ,
cheers Euan.

Hi Euan,
I'm not ignoring you - just got rushed into hospital on Saturday (my back again). As for whatever with happened with the local club, that was before I joined. Also, I have heard both sides of the story now rather than just the one! I'll send you a pm when I can.
Cheers,
Andy

Eurofighter is now finished with Longhorsley just 4 days away!! However, what is that maximum legal wind speed for test flying? Might not be able to do test flights this week.

I have tested the EDF on the ground - well actually on top of our large trampoline, just to keep it away from any FOD.

All up weight is 8.1Kg with 12 cell 5000mah flight batteries on board and a 2 battery receiver/servo set-up.
Half throttle gives 60amps
Full throttle gives 145 amps @50 volts, giving 7Kw or 9.6hp.
Thrust is 11.8kg :D

Flight time at half throttle will be approx 5 mins. At full throttle 2.5 mins !

But, ESC is only 120amp with 150amp for 20 seconds. And, the motor is rated at 5Kw. So I think the throttle will have to be limited. I think if limited to 100amps the thrust will be about 8Kg, same as the planes weight.

The plane never made it to Longhorsley, but we flew others instead.....a 10Kg LMA Genesis hovered nicely over the flightline in the breeze!!

So the next show is our own this weekend at Teesside - and we have ordered good weather

The plane went for its first flight yesterday. It made it about 30m across the runway before deciding that grass was too tuff and tucked its front wheel under. Today saw it fitted with a slightly bigger wheel and slightly longer leg, ready for second try.
