Sorry to hear that, like Alan I feel for you. Will be giving mine its maiden flight in the near future so fingers crossed. Wren was a good day, there was another TN vamp there ready to go.

Well Bonsey you have had your share of heartbreaks and come through to fly again as you did on ~Saturday at Barkston. And the way the Yak performed you still seemed to be enjoying the hobby in spite of the nasties it throws at you.. Look forward to seeing you at EK

Well its all ready to test fly, dry weight with the bubble trap full is 22.8lb, John's is 22.6lb and we both had to put 2.25lb of lead in the nose to balance, the bubble traps weigh 1/2 lb full
and they are stuffed as far forward as possible and we are only using two batteries one for radio & one for the turbine. One option to reduce ballast we thought of is to use the Mick Reeves venom fiber glass booms to reduce the tail weight ??? his kit is also 1/6th scale and weigh's in at 18 to 22lb so with our build we are pretty close but we have had to do a lot of juggling with servo's with only the one on the elevator and rudders on closed loop. Just the weather now stopping us.

Double checked everything ready for today but the good old British weather has spoil't things again, Saturday is crosswind for our site so that in a no go as well. Having read Dave Schawbrick's report in the jet mag on his build & flying of Tony's Vamp I have as a caution added a couple of ounces of extra lead taking my dry weight to just over 23lb. Both Johns & mine were balancing as per the plans with the tail plane at zero incidence.

Yes I saw the jet mag report and it brought back bad memories but onward.Good luck with all the test flying when you carry it out.Mine was just nose heavy when we tested balance with no fuel.

Best regards

With the best intentions to get this plane airborne I failed today, Having done some taxi runs on our temp flying field I abandoned the idea of flying it due to the rough runway and a soft nose leg spring. With all of the 2 1/4 lb of lead over the nose wheel it was bouncing about like a bucking bronco and I feared an unpredictable lift off before I got flying speed.
So its got to wait until I get it on tarmac which hopefully will be next week, otherwise all was good and she handled well and seemed to have loads of power. Flew the Yak instead, far less bother :D

Well Its flown at last, took it down to Wellsbourne this evening and she flew like a dream. :D . Needed 5 clicks of up in to keep straight & level no other trim needed. Did not retract the u/c so that will add a bit of nose weight but I think I can remove the 4 once extra I fitted for good measure. Dare I say it flew as well or even better than the Sterner Vamp I had, the wren 70 was more than enough power and the landing was a greaser if not a bit fast. Things to do before the next outing are reduce the aileron movement ( a little lively for me ), fit breaks and start adding some detail & colour, I will leave the nose weight as it is until I have done the flight with retracts up.

Just downloaded some pics, I have weighed it with the fuel I took off with which is just over 1.5 liters and it weighs 26.5lb and after a 3min flight still had 1/2 tank left.

Another successful flight this evening off grass this time, as before no prob's. Just need to get some paint on it so I can see it better.

With all this great weather I have no excuses not to get it into paint so I started yesterday & continued this evening. All silver now done just the yellow, & black to do. I am doing the Swiss scheme J 1081 as shown on the pdf file file attached. That should stand out so even I can see it.

Its coming along, up at 5:30 this morning to get my work done so I can get it painted. The paint certainly dries quick this weather. Just the fuzz to stripe now, no panel lines, no rivets, no time, no patience, :D I just want to get it flying before the summers gone.

Still not fully painted just the yellow on the fuzz to do, Had 3 more flights with it yesterday in sometimes quite blustery conditions with no prob's, landings were text book without the use of flaps and still no brakes fitted. Flaps will need to be used in calmer conditions, she is really quick on full power with most of the flights on 1/2 power, the yellow does not stand out as well as I thought it would but it is better than all silver. All in all Its a great plane to fly and looks the part in the air, the main thing as I see it is to keep the weight down and ensure the balance is in the correct place.

Hi Dave
Looking very good, look forward to seeing it in the future. Will you be at Elvington as I had a word with Paul Hardman and He said you might be ?.It was with regard to a Provost build after I had said to him I was thinking of doing one.

Hi Graham, yes I will be at Elvington on Sat as a paying guest but as I am having a lift so may not be able to take the provost with me. Due to health issues I have not been able to progress the project as far as I would of liked. It has been drawn up by Chris Willis and is based around the Wren Jubilee turbine, it is 1/6th scale with a span of around 2 meter. It uses Chris's proven style of fuzz assembly with foam core wings and tail surfaces, retracts by Premier UK of course & jet pipe by Wren. The projected weight of 20 - 22 lb, it is not true scale in all areas i.e air intakes although the outline is true to the MK5 / Stikemaster. Fibreglass parts are to be, Tip tanks, nose cone, air intakes & top canopy cover .
