Hi all
Im looking for a Jerry Bates 1/4.5 scale Seafury.
Anything considered Plans , Kit, Part built , Retracts etc.....

Hello Jonathan,
Before going down the path of the 1/4 scale Sea Fury my advice based on owning,flying and maintaining this warbird for 7 years now is go for the slightly smaller 1/4.5 version,it will be much more user friendly - the 1/4 size model is a big and heavy warbird,mine was built light but still came out at 32 kg since they all require at least 5 kg of lead in the nose even with a Moki 250 upfront.

Mine was flown initially with the 250 radial which flew it OK but without the legendary full size Sea Fury performance,so for the last 3 years it has had a Moki 300 in it which allowed a kilo of nose lead to be removed - there are several videos around of it flying in its current Australian navy blue colour scheme.

For the 2018 season a Moki 400 cc radial has been installed allowing even more nose lead to be removed,it now only requires the exemption re-test flights - the performance should I believe finally be more akin to the full size.

The smaller 1/4.5 version will be perfect with a Moki 250 and should come out at around 25 kg with performance in line with a CARF Thunderbolt or Corsair of the same scale.

Will a Moki 250 definitely fit the 1/4.5 ???

Hi Jonathon,

Yes the Moki 250 will fit, it is the scale of the Airworld composite Sea Fury which takes the 250.

Brian, realize it may seem a bit OTT but as you know there is a device called a throttle which if used makes a Moki sound even better - look forward to seeing you at Cosford.

Hi Johnathan, if it's of any help to you, I wrote up a build thread, complete with photo's, of a 1/4 scale Sea Fury I built not too long ago. I used a lot of ideas from Phil Clarke's build from a few years back, which helped me tremendously. The model was fitted with a 250 Moki as yours will be.
