Does anyone have a flying model of a B24 Liberator (come back John Deacon, all is forgiven!)
We live near Manston Airport that was well used by the USAAF in the past and many of their planes came to grief during the war when returning from a successful sortie, usually damaged, and many crash sites have been found in recent years. The American Embassy are keen to be involved in commemorations of these disasters and we have records of a B24H that crashed on 20th February 1944 (near our village). Next year will be the 70th anniversary of several crashes and a BIG commemoration is planned. It would be great if we could locate someone with a flying model to participate in some way, shape or form!
Here's a link to a website covering the crash in question: http://www.b24.net/missions/MM022044.htm (scroll down past the first group of photos to one of plane wreckage in a field). The serial number of the particular aircraft was 42-7529 and she was named "Coral Princess".
If anyone has any information, please ring Dave or me 01843 844706 (not our usual number; used by me for Parish Council business, which this is).
