Cheddar Fly-in 2019

Postby Ronald Bellinger » November 20th, 2018, 1:02 pm

On browsing the net some weeks ago I came across a special notice, stating that a consultation had
taken place between LMA/BMFA ,re a clash with Cosford, and Woodspring, Airshows , this urgent consultation was agreed in order to give both memberships as much time as possible to make other arrangments.( not sure this was fake news)

I note that Woodspring have move the date of the Airshow to the 13/14 July, the next w,e, after cosford,
which will clash with Cheddar 2019.

The question is do we leave Chedder were it is, or move to the next week end, so as to enable members to attend
both.

Hi Ron

My vote is to leave Cheddar at its normal time starting on the 8th July directly after Cosford and then running through the Woodspring weekend. Woodspring is only a very short drive from Cheddar and could be useful to the regular Cheddar attendees as they could visit the show for a day during their stay at Cheddar. Those LMA members who want to fly at Woodspring could still have the week at Cheddar before heading to Woodspring for the weekend.

Cheddar can be used as a base for visiting Woodsprings and / or Yeovilton airshow on 13th July so the dates look good. Visits to Cosford 6-7th, Yeovilton 13th and Woodsprings 14th are possible :)
Personally as a weekend day visitor to Cheddar it is not ideal as shows get in the way lol
Can it be a 2 week event to extend to RIAT 19, 20, 21 July, as it might suite some members ?

Thanks steve,
You have put the problem in a nut shell , as you put it leaving the date for Cheddar as per last year has a lot merit, but would stop some weekend only LMA members ( flying at Woodspring) from meeting up with fellow members. how big a problem this is will depend on feed back.
As to extending the duration, it is possible. subject to it being approved with LMA and feed back.

Unfortunately this will reduce the number attending the Cheddar fly-in from the surround areas, particularly the members from Blackdown RCFC as the Woodsprings event is our closest model flying show.

Most of, if not all, of the members that attend Cheddar from Blackdown also fly in the Woodspings show circuit as well as some of the other surrounding clubs.

The problem wouldn't exist if Cosford hadn't swapped its dates the last couple of years. Could the Cheddar fly-in not be changed to the week following Woodsprings? 15th-21st? It may encourage some LMA members to come down and fly at the Woodsprings Show before a short drive to Cheddar for the following week?

The weekend of 20 -21st looks like non model show weekend, so 12th till 21st looks good to me :)

Kyle If LMA members can go to Cheddar following Woodspring then why can't they also do it the other way round and do Cheddar first and then go to Woodspring ?

It would suit us to be on the 8th as we could go down straight from Cosford.

Due to the logistics involved in preparing Cheddar to follow on from Cosford as per last year, and the numbers LMA member involved. ( this could be reviewed subject to special arrangments) in order to help.

I would propose that we start Cheddar on Thursday Friday before Woodspring and carry through over the following weekend.

Ron

Are you suggesting 11th to 21st July.
As discussed we are not available that week to help with organisation. Sorry.

John,
Woodspring is the next weekend following Cosford. If you are available? the week following Cosford to oversee any early arrival
should Paul and I not be available during all of that week. subject to LMA approval of an extension to cover a 2week period. perhaps Rob, or Dave/ could make a comment/

I have received approval from Rob to extend the fly-in to start on the Monday following Cosford for a period of 2 weeks
which should now cover most of the problems due to the change in date.
This will enable member to attend Cheddar prior to Woodspring and act as a backstop should the ground condition be unfavorable or cancellations.at Woodspring
I will have to sort out the problems with site preparation due to the limited time available but with the help of members, I am sure we can overcome.

Ron

We can do the week after Cheddar and would be happy to do the same as last year driving down straight after Cosford to meet any early arrivals on the Monday morning if that helps.

I might be wrong, but it appears that the months have got confused here. It starts off in July and seems to end up in June. Is this right?

Cheers for that Ron. Loved it last year, but the weather did help a bit. It's in my diary now :-)
