Greenly Finished Weight.

I'm using the poor weather as an opportunity to work on finishing my Greenly which is turning into a long time project. The fuselage and tail are done but I am planning to make the wing using the built up method. The wing rib profile I can get from the plan but what spar size should I use? Can anyone help? I was told that a plan for built up wing would be made available but I haven't heard anything since, so with limited design experience I'm giving it a go. Also what can I expect the all up weight to be with a Zenoah 38 up front? It's my first petrol model so there are a lot of grey area's.

Can't help you with the exact finished weight but my much modified and added to cabin version with a US 41 aboard came out a little under 9kg.

hi alan i am planning on building a greenly in the very near future i have a set of foam wings but have since been put on to johns latest additions to his plans databaise and one includes the details of the built up wings if i didnt have the foam ones i would do it this way and its a free download, i plan to use the same engine and at the minute i dont know how heavy it will be as it will be more for a vid/photo/glider tug so ill have a bit more weight i am looking into building a retracting line like the one the swift display team have on there pawnee any way heres the link also see the rcmf forum there is a build thread http://www.ghostsquadron.co.uk/page30.html

Thanks Dave and Fred. I'll follow your guidance and try to get the thing in the air this season. I have dragged my feet in the past as building a large model means leaving the comfort zone of the glow and electric scene, which I have most experience. I already have the engine and spare servo's etc. It's the willpower I sometimes lack to make that final step into much bigger aircraft. Cheers, Alan.

Hi Alan
I have been flying a Lowley for the past 3 years, there is nothing to worry about stepping up a size.
The engine response is slightly slower but the plane it's self is easier, they fly like a pussy cat.
good luck after your first flight you will wonder why you didn't do it earlier.

Hi Alan,
My Greenly came out at 7.5kg with a Zenoah 38 up front. My lowley weight came out lower than the Greenly (can't remember it at the moment). Both planes are powered by Zenoah 38's and both fly really well.

Thanks Fella's you've improved my enthusiasm no end. I have downloaded John's free wing plan from the Scale soaring website but the printing cost at £6 per sheet was a bit more than I expected. Still it was good of John to provide the design for free.

Sean,
I have the downloaded plans in PDF format on a memory stick. The lady in the copying/printing shop said I could e mail it to her. I don't need the fuselage plan although it is better than the one I have. There are two choices for the wing, a one piece wing or a two piece with a joining tube. What part of the country are you?

I live near Royston, Hertfordshire. I think i would go for the 2 piece wing (both my others are 1 piece foam). I would like two copies if thats possible?
