Catton Park Garden Party

Postby Paul Savage 1568 » January 3rd, 2011, 5:49 pm

Despite our very best efforts to reinvigorate the interest in this once popular event, The Catton Park Garden Party style Fly-in has also been dropped from the LMA calendar for 2011 due to diminishing numbers. The MLMFG will be discussing the option for us to stage a somewhat less generous event in 2011 possibly with some LMA support. No information available as yet..The question is...Is there still a demand for relaxed fly-in in the Midlands region??? .

Yes there is Paul . . . I, for one , always enjoy these events. For me, Fly-ins are what the association is all about. Apart from awful bad luck with the weather, I cant remember a really low turn-out ? My question is . . . Have the LMA withdrawn support ? or is it the decision of you guys to try something else ? cheers Glenn

Hi Glenn,

I'm probably the last one to comment. I find it increasingly difficult to find the time or afford the ever increasing costs of travelling great distances. I would imagine that I'm not the only one being affected the by ever increasing costs of dragging a caravan around the country.

The hire costs of portaloo's and Elson tank in addition to the cost of free food and general refreshments for all soon start to add up. In addition to the unseen, but ever increasing costs of diesel and petrol for the generators and tractor and not forgetting lpg gas of course. All previously paid for by our own LMA and for the benefit of all LMA members in attendence (of which 25 are also members of the group itself ). Expanding the event into a full weekend package c/w free camping (rather than just a one day event) had the effect of further increasing the incurred costs, the funding for which has now been significantly reduced. We previously had to plan for a reasonably good turn out, but if for whatever reason ( bad weather for example) this doesn't happen then it's the LMA's good money gone to waste and there lies the problem that we have experienced over the past few years. The costs have increased and numbers in attendance are generally in decline, perhaps due to the same reason as my opening statement. We're pretty certain that we'll be hosting a Fly-In for the LMA again this year. Dates and details should be available by the end of January.

Paul/Glen--the LMA have certainly not withdrawn support for any flyins--indeed at the AGM we proposed to fund more ,and as you rightl;y say Paul,by reducing the overall costs of events like the Garden Party,we can afford to fund more normal flyins and look forward to proposed dates from your club---DAVE

Paul - Thanks for the info . . I hope your team are able to find a suitable alternative fly-in weekend at Catton this year - The mix of good flying and your evening hospitality etc is always a favourite on my calender. Thanks for the info re. extra support for Fly-ins Dave - It may be particularly welcome for the Gee Bee team this year as well over half of us, as yet, wont be able to race at the public venues . . but we will be looking forward to an even bigger team turnout for some quality racing at the Fly-ins . . regards Glenn
