Bending Piano Wire

Postby stuart cotgrove » March 24th, 2011, 7:50 am

Need to make up some new u/c for my Greenley. The current 1/4" Piano Wire I had to heat to soften before I could bend it, this in turn has weakened the metal and the U/C is getting out of shape.

Has anyone used one of these or do you have a better way of bending 1/4" piano?

I would be interested to hear the advice from anyone who has mastered the art.

Stu, that has to be one of the worst Ebay ads that I have ever seen! wonder if it works?

I have used one of those K&S benders. They do work althought it's a bit of a struggle with 1/4 piano wire.

Cheers,
Dave.

Hi,
I have always used my socket set for bending piano wire - as daft as it sounds. The bigger sockets have a change in diameter with a nice round curve on them. I select the one with the radius I want and then clamp it in a vice. Then the wire can be pulled round it using 2 lengths of tube as levers.
