100% agree with John about the floor.

I insulated my (detached) garage floor with 25mm jablite and then 18mm caberfloor ontop. Very simple to do, cost about £150 and makes a massive difference.

I also dot and dabbed Gyproc Thermaline Plus 40(30mm insulation + 10mm plasterboard) to my single skin walls. Took 2 days, and about £300, but it now takes very little heating to keep the garage at a comfortable temperature.

Thanks John and Steve. Great suggestions. The problem with lining the floor, even with 25mm insulation and 18mm chipboard raises the floor level by 43mm and reduces the minimum step distance to the rest of the house. Something of a breach regarding the insurance etc. I also still use the garage as a garage when the car needs attention. Lining the gable wall might be a good option though.

We had the same issue at work with a portable propane blow heater, now we have a portable carbon monoxide alarm.
