Hi, I’ve got an old, but unrun Tartan22, petrol version, but, I can’t see a flywheel, and there’s no electronic ignition,
Anyone remember these engines? Are they electronic ignition or magneto?

Alan , I had one of these engines in the 1970,s but a glow version , If I remember correctly spun a decent size prop and was reliable , sold it to a club mate , later wished I had kept it !
Possibly you could fit a RcXel ignition unit which work really well ,and not difficult to fit , maybe first check compression , piston, bore , bearings and crankshaft true, ness ?

Thanks Ian, I’ve had the glow versions, like a giant cox, run both ways without. any effort, I don’t want to spend money on this engine, which is new& unrun, I just want to know if it’s magneto, or electronic,

Hi Alan

I have a Tartan 44cc twin and it does not need an ignition battery. I assume the set up is the same as the 22 single, it looks like it has a flywheel magnito in the back housing infront of the pull starter.
Hope this helps.

Well, unnoticed by me, this engines got a glow plug thread, so, turns out it’s a glow engine, fitted with a Wallbro pumper carb jetted for glow fuel,

I had one of those, it ran really well but a bit thirsty. Biggest problem was starting it cold, once warmed up it was fine.
