manifold pressure

Hi
Whilst i appreciate this is a model flying web site this is an aeroplane related question.
Have given up on the model mags ,and have started reading about the full size flying.
Could some one please tell me what Manifold pressure is and how it it set .
I am reading about the flying of a Harvard and i quote " I set the engine RPM and then set the manifold pressure"?
