Engine import from Hong Kong.

I want to buy a CRRC engine Kit on Ebay from Hong Kong but I am unsure weather it will clobbered by loads of VAT and import duty so that it would not be worthwhile.
If anyone has any advice to offer I would be very grateful.

I have got one from Falcon Aviation and it was assembled in 3/4hr and is ok. To save all the extra cost get one from Richardhope you are successful, cheers

Thanks for that Roger, But I was hoping to save a bit of dosh. From Hong Kong Ninety Pounds + 30 postage as opposed to 199.95 for yours. A good deal from Hong Kong but it depends on any other charges that may be added on. That's why I was querying the import duty if any.

I have bought Lipos several times from Hong Kong up to a value of about £60 per shipment, as has my son and his friend with no customs problems at all. It's not the same from the USA though. I've always paid duty from there.

I bought a 100cc twin from China and did pay some duty etc, only saved around £70. Then came the downer.......didnt run well which was traced to a faulty carb, the motor didnt come with a warranty as I bought it direct from the supplier and it cost me another £80 for a carb. So, after that it would have cost me less had I bought it in the UK with a warranty.

I do buy some things from China/HK but dont think I would buy another engine that way. If your buying one check the warranty situation, be aware that you would probably still have to pay shipping to get it back to HK if it went wrong anyway.

Sorry to hear abnout your hard luck Pat. I can quite understand why you wouldn't recommend it . However I was wondering if buying what is literally a box of unassembled parts would attract the import duty as in my case. The returns problem would not be there for me as the spares are rediculously cheap and engines have been my thing for the last fifty years. Gulp, did I just say that? Also what would the VAT situation be?

One of our members bought one last week from HK. No problems or any other charges. Not sure if he has it running yet though. Seams a real good deal at the moment
Only took a few days to arrive as well.

The official Crrc website has a clear statement that they will not offer any warranty support on Crrc engines purchased on Ebay, so either they are trying to protect their official importers or the Ebay engines are
( alledgedly ) not kosher.

Hi, Gents.
I bought 2 CRRC 45cc motors in the last 18 months, Had trouble with the bearings on one. Took it apart, easy enough,
changed to SKF bearings, got rid of the elec. ignition, bored the needles a bit bigger and made a plug adapter for
glow plug. 6% oil and 94% methanol, and it goes like the clappers. Even converted the second one, now.
Use Klotz oil and industrial methanol, which we get here in SA. (no nitro).
They run a bit cooler and have a bit more gusto than petrol.(IMHO). Spares are available as well.
Just be carefull of the flame that shoots out, when over-primed. I learned the hard way.
