Help needed
Does anyone know the actual font for UK registration letters on powered aircraft in the 1930's and 40's.
I am having problems correctly identifying the font to produce the registration letters for my Tiger Moth.
Regards
John

Hi John,
I don't think there was an actual font. The letters all had specific measurements. However, this site shows registration for plastic models - see what you think

Great stuff for future reference, thank you...But what is presented is the font for serial numbers on RAF aircraft and not the registration letters on GA aircraft which from photos I have look quite different.
Anyone else got any ideas ?
John

Morning John, If you have photos of the origanal you are modelling, is it posible to draw the letters in a drawing program. At school we use 2D design for simple things like this, I could get you a copy if required or have a go myself if you send the photos and sizes. If It is the infomation you require it might be worth asking Andrew Taylor and his friend Henry, I belive he is a DeHavilland expert. Hope your keeping well, Paul

Hi John,
This is the best I can do - no working scanner. I can send you a 3.6 meg picture which you can then print out.

TTFN,
Neil

Thank you everyone who replied.

There is a difference between the font for serial numbers and registration letters (which is what I was looking for this time) but all the info you have found will be stored away until I build my next British military model.
I got a reply from the Scale Soaring website forum
www.scalesoaring.co.uk that directed me to CAP 523. This has full details of how to construct registration letters on an 8 by 12 grid so the problem is now sorted. The link for anyone else who needs this info is :-
